Barbara Jean Hartsell, 76, of Little Rock, left this world on Saturday, September 17, 2016, during a full Harvest moon in the midst of a thunderstorm. Barbara was born in Little Rock Arkansas on January 28, 1940. She leaves behind five children, three grandchildren, and countless people who were touched by her ‘Charm Magic’ and sage-like wisdom. Barbara shared her talent, treasure, and life selflessly with those around her, opening her home and heart to friends and strangers alike. She was a lioness of a mother, and one of the co-founders of the original Little Rock Farmer’s Market on Main Street. Barbara was also a community activist/organizer championing such causes as opposition to a waste water facility near the port of Little Rock, official recognition of slave grave yards near Thibault Rd., and the protection and stewardship of sacred Quapaw Indian Land. Her light in this world will be missed…

Cremation Arrangements are under the direction of A Natural State Funeral Service 2620 West Main Street,  Jacksonville, Arkansas, 72076. 501-982-3400

Barbara was a wonderful friend to me and my family. We all enjoyed spending time talking with her and listening to her views of life and wisdom. My son and I will especially miss her and will continue to talk to her during our prayers.

She was a beautiful lady inside and out. Blessed to have known her, an angel on earth and now in heaven.

I got to know Barbara very well when we were fighting the waste water facility. I have said many times that she reminded me of a “old circuit preacher” that walked the aisles and got down to the facts. She did this a few times in some of the meeting gs with the waste water people. She was a strong advocate. She will be missed. Rest in Peace Barbara.
