Ethel “Lucy” Hummel, 86, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016. She was born April 21, 1930, in Buckhannon, WV to the late Dailey and Stella Hollingsworth. Lucy was raised in Richwood, WV, where she attended public schools and later received her GED. Lucy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and servant of the Lord. She was a homemaker and spent her adult life caring for her husband Ray Hummel, and children Mitzi, Bo, and Tim.

Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, Dailey and Stella Hollingsworth, sisters Charlene Hartless, Sara Jane Hollingsworth, and Carolyn Cutlep. She is also preceded in death by brothers Julian Hollingsworth, and Dailey Hollingsworth Jr. and son-in-law Steve Twaro. Most of all, she is preceded in death by her youngest son, Tim Hummel. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ray Hummel, her daughter Mitzi Twaro of Fayetteville, AR., and her son and daughter-in-law Bo and Kathy Hummel of Little Rock, AR.  She is also survived by her only granddaughter Stephanie Hummel of Brooklyn, NY. Lucy is survived by two brothers Gary Hollingsworth (Donna) of North Carolina and Joe Eddy Hollingsworth (Shirley) of Ohio.

Lucy served the Lord her whole life. As a young child, she and her siblings would travel around the state of West Virginia singing gospel music to various churches. Lucy also learned to play the piano. Family members would gather around the piano and sing while she played during most holiday gatherings. Lucy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, AR. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. She was well known for her homemade peanut butter fudge and scalloped potatoes that she supplied for many church functions. Lucy also had the honor of serving the Lord through mission work in Mexico and Europe. She was well loved by her brothers and sisters of Christ.

A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held 1:00 PM on Monday October 3, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, AR.  Interment of her body will be at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Crawley, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

    Lucy was one of the sweetest and most generous people I’ve known in my life. She had a lovely spirit, and she always lived to serve her Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

    Ray, Bo, Mitzi & family: Your mother was a wonderful and gracious lady, I’m truly saddened by the loss. I will not forget the generosity shared with me during my years in Virginia.
