Lornail “Lonnie” McClure, age 82, of Quitman passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA on October 8, 1935 to Edgar and Tishie McClure. Lonnie was a pharmacist and businessman that owned McClure’s Pharmacy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before opening his pharmacy in Greers Ferry, Arkansas.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his son Baron Craig McClure; two sisters Joyce McClure and Jackie Burris; and two brothers Edgar McClure, Jr. and Gary McClure.
He leaves behind his daughter Carla Lyn McClure of Cabot, Arkansas and granddaughter Angela Kay McClure of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; three sisters Shirley Engels of Walker, Louisiana, Peggy Hughes of Slaughter, Louisiana and Glenda Page of Zachary, Louisiana; a brother Glynn McClure of Tunica, Louisiana.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 49 Devils Fork Road, Greers Ferry, Arkansas.

Lonnie, was a neighbor and a friend. He was one who would share fresh pears of his fruit trees and a good story.

We have known Lonnie for over 30 years. He was a good man and always there when needed
I meet Lonnie when I was a young teenager, we are both from Louisiana so we had a few things in common. Lonnie took me under his wing and trained me to be a pharmacy tech. I saw all kinds of sides to Lonnie over the years that I worked for him. He had a personality that when he liked you he would do anything he could to help you out. He had a kind hearted side to him and he was definitely a joker, always trying to scare me or make me laugh. I’m sorry to hear of his passing.
I remember Mr. McClure as our friendly neighborhood Pharmacist at the corner of Winbourne Ave. and Wayne Drive in Baton Rouge. I grew up in that neighborhood walking past his Pharmacy every day going to Winbourne Elementary, and later Istrouma High School. My family was relatively poor at that time and when I went in his store to pick up prescription for my dad or Mom, he was always friendly to me. Once when coming back from football practice at Istrouma I passed his store and I was really tired and thirsty, he saw me and called me over and gave me a ice cold coke which at the time I could not afford to buy. That was the best tasting coke I ever had. I remember him for that kindness. It cost him 6 cents but at that exact time it was a life saver for me. Every time I have a coke now I remember Mr. McClure. A Great Gentleman.
