Dorothy Mae Hagan Shupe, 96

Dorothy Mae Hagan Shupe, 96, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away while surrounded by family on December 26, 2017. Dorothy, known by her family and friends as Dodo, was born on July 15, 1921, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, the daughter of Mamie and Rodney Hagan.

In October, 1941, Dorothy married her childhood sweetheart, Larry Shupe, and made their home in Stuttgart, where they raised their three children, Keith Shupe, Sherry Smith, and Kathy Honea.

In addition to her two daughters, Dorothy is survived by her brother, Johnny Hagan and his wife JoAnn; her sister, Vicki Fox and her husband, Russell; son-in-law, Jerry Smith; son-in law, Ted Honea; her grandchildren, Kent Smith and his wife Shannon, Jeffrey Smith and his wife Amy, Jeremy Smith, Rebecca Honea, Chris Honea, Elissa Honea and Lisa Jones, and her 12 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy lived a life devoted to the Lord, her family and friends. She was a kind, gentle and giving person, who spoke and acted with grace and dignity. However, Dorothy’s kind and gentle ways were tempered by a competitive spirit, especially when playing Skip Bo. Dorothy was an excellent cook and her family and friends always looked forward to any foods she prepared. Most of all, friends and family enjoyed talking, laughing and learning from her. She was truly a woman who served the Lord every day with her loving, generous, sweet spirit and all who knew her will never forget her.

At the time of her death, Dorothy was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock. Prior to moving to Little Rock, Dorothy was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Stuttgart. For many of those years she taught a Sunday School class; from pre-school to the oldest. She loved to read bible stories to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Parkway Village retirement community, Baptist Medical Center and Hospice Home Care for the many hours they devoted to her.

There will be a family graveside service at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart on Friday, December 29, at 11:00 A.M. A celebration of life service will be held the same day at 1:00 at First Baptist Church, also in Stuttgart.
