Melvin Larry Browning, 73

Melvin L. Browning, 73, of Clinton, Arkansas made his heavenly flight on March 8, 2018.  He was born on June 15, 1944 in Manila, Arkansas to the late Grace Browning.

He is a proud Army Veteran and was a retired letter carrier for over 25 years. Melvin was a former Mayor of Manila, Arkansas; substitute teacher at Clinton Public Schools for 12 years and was presented with the Arkansas Nursing Home Volunteer of the Year Award. His greatest joy in life was his grand and great-grandchildren. Melvin was involved and volunteered in countless organizations. He loved reading and gardening. Melvin will be most remembered for his sense of humor and crazy stories. As he lived this life his hope was that he had a been help to someone and made their life better. Now, he goes to be an eternal servant to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his mother Grace Browning and a brother Cecil Browning.

Melvin is survived by his daughter Beth Hollingshead (Brad) and step-children Luis Morales (Robin) and Melinda Morales; two grandchildren Shelby Beatty (Shane) and Jenny Morales; two great-grandchildren Audrey and Benjamin Beatty; two siblings Joyce Gordan (Joe) and Nellie Fleeman (Paul); a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Van Buren County Library, Clinton, Arkansas in his memory.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Old Austin Baptist Church, 50 Old Hwy 38 N., Austin, Arkansas. His life celebration will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Old Austin Baptist Church, Austin, Arkansas.  Burial will be at Arkansas Veterans Cemetery, Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 9:00 A.M.

    I am so thankful that Mr B shared his salvation testimony with me about 5 years ago. I will miss him, but I’m so glad to know that I will see him in Heaven!

    Rest in peace fellow Mayor, Army Veteran and great friend. I have wonderful memories from our days when you were Mayor of Manilla. I am very grateful to have known you. You are a great example for many to follow, and I know you are truly missed.
