Heaven has gained another great singer for the choir and a wonderful teacher. I had Ms. Fortson for sixth grade many years ago. I still use some of her tricks in the college classes I teach today. She was a great neighbor also.
So glad to have known mrs. Fortson for a short time. We shared a love for music. She taught me a lot about music and was a great encourager. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

So sorry to hear about your mom. I know how that dreadful disease Alzheimer’s can be. Believe she is now 100% whole and disease free and treasure the memories.
To the Fortson family, my deepest sympathy for your loss. Mrs. Fortson was such an iconic educator for those that new her. My greatest wish to all is that the feelings of loss are soon replaced with the many loving memories she left behind. Thoughts, hugs and prayers to Charlie, Lee and Mark.
I was blessed to be able to teach with her at Bayou Meto. Her life has inspired me throughout my career. She was an exemplary mentor and friend.
She was my teacher and I have wonderful memories being in her class.
Louella was a natural teacher and encourager. She had me in a couple of her singing schools but despite her best, my talent did not develop. She encouraged me and helped construct a speech fpr my high school graduation of which at the time I was not very enthusiastic. I remember as a young boy and her as a teenager, going with her on a fast and wild truck ride after Uncle Cecil had made her mad. She scared me.
She was a special person and our faith assures us of her eternity.
We are so sorry for your loss. We have always thought a lot of Mrs. Fortson. She was a very kind and Christian women.
She was my favorite teacher at Jacksonville Elementary!
My husband went to church with her at Gravel Ridge and so enjoyed her singing!
Such an absolutely wonderful lady!
