Leroy McKenzie, 86, of, Conway, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Benton, Arkansas after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer Disease.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jane Bain; sister, Betty Coy of Lansing, Michigan; and son, Jeff McKenzie of Springfield, Arkansas.
Mr. McKenzie served six years in the Army National Guard and on active duty as a sergeant in the military police at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. He loved his country. After his military service, he was employed by FMC Corporation (John Bean Division) in Lansing and later transferred to Conway as a Machine Shop Supervisor, where he retired after thirty four years in 1989.
Roy had a passion for antiques, classic cars, etc. which he would buy and restore. He owned many over his lifetime. He was one of the co-founders of the Antique Car Club in Conway.
After his retirement, he kept bust restoring homes and was known as a “fixer upper” even before flipping became popular.
He is survived by his three daughters, Julie (Don) Disterheft, Jill (Kevin) Bird, and Jane (Dick) Dragoun; five grandchildren, Kayleigh (Matt) Wooten, Randall and Andy McKenzie, Nathan Blaylock, and Landon Bird; three great grandchildren, Aden, Tucker, and Edie Wooten; a brother, John “Jack” McKenzie of Michigan; and the mother of his children, Jayce McKenzie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway, Arkansas followed by visitation.
