James Monroe Cates, 72

James Monroe Cates, 72, of Alexander, AR passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, February 20th, 2019. He was born on March 24th1946 in England, AR.

He served in the Army National Guard in the 112thInfantry and served for 16 years, stationed out of Camp Robinson. He worked for Little Rock Housing Authority and cherished the time spent with the Senior Citizens there. He worked with the Alexander Water Department and also volunteered his time with the Alexander Fire Department.  Monroe married the love of his life Darlene, on September 6th, 1968 and had four beautiful girls together. He loved his life, family, and country.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years,  a sister Dorothy Skaggs, Four Daughters: ( Lyn & Mike Ellis), (Melissa & Robert Lavender),(Amanda & Trey Moore), (Karen & Shaun Reynolds) , 11 Grandchildren: Erik Ellis, Kristen Ellison, Tyler Ellis, Maranda Meachum, Adrianna Lavender, Raegan Hackler, Logan Ellis, Anissa Lavender, Jayden Cates, Mason Reynolds, Ava Reynolds  4 Great Grans: E’Lyn & Em’ry Ellis, Brentley & Alex; as well as many nephews and great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arvel and Sena Cates, one brother Willie Cates.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 2nd at Benton First, 1801 Hot Springs Hwy Benton, AR 72019 at 11 AM.

    Lynn, Melissa, Amanda, Karen & Sister Darlin, My thoughts and prayers are with you. Just remember that song. What a day That will be. We know that soon and very soon we will see our father’s again. I bet Bro.& Sister Brown my daddy and you grandparent had a reunionswhen your sweet daddy walk through the gates of haven.
