Mom’s Poem

I Love You Momma

This lady that you’ll write your thoughts about is reading every line,

Though no longer here to thank each one, looking over shoulders suits her fine,

Mom has always had her hand in things, so there’s no reason to stop her now.

You will feel the smile upon your face as you remember her, the when, the place, the how,

Momma never wanted tears to flow or sorrow to fill her space,

So listen loves and enjoy this ode, as I take you to Momma’s place,

Born the youngest of the Deckwa babes on a beautiful Louisiana day,

We were raised by the saying of her own mom “pick it up or I’ll throw it away”,

Mom was never one for restrictions though she tried a time or two,

We honestly learned at an early age, this is something she just couldn’t do,

She loved her kids through thick and thin, in good times and in bad,

If she couldn’t give to all of us then none is what we had,

She taught us lift each other up, though at times we lost that height,

But to mess with our Mother or her kids you were looking for a fight,

This Lady was a worker, she had babies at so young,

Not much time for parties not much time to run,

When she was able to find her time, gambling was the call,

From Bingo to Keno or card games of choice our Momma loved them all,

But the one true love amongst all this, has been waiting by her side,

For without Dad as he waited in heaven, I know each night she cried,

Now I know she loved her babies all 8 from young to old,

And she never lost that Mothers grip, even today we do what’s told,

We love you Ma with all we have and we thank you for being you,

Because all the choices you could have choose you included us in them too.

Rest in Love and Peace Ma
