Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

David Lee Harshfield, Sr., 89

On Monday, September 9, 2019, David Lee Harshfield, Sr., loving husband, father of four children, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 89.

David was born in Delaware, Arkansas, to Zona Lucille and Martin Van Buren Harshfield on August 1, 1930. He was a star basketball and football player for Dardanelle High School and was a proud Sand Lizard.

He married Marjorie Branton on December 16, 1949. They raised two sons, David and Dan, and two daughters, Dianna and Melinda.

David had a love for animals and rode horses as a child. His love of the majestic creatures led him to enjoy the Oaklawn horse races. He loved to fish, and always made sure that his children and grandchildren had a fishing pole and tackle box. David enjoyed watching football – from the Salt Bowl to the Razorbacks to the Cowboys. He was a great man, always working on his honey-dos and often found a way to put a smile on the faces of those he loved – often bringing flowers by and dropping off watermelons, peaches, and sometimes even Frostys.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Zona and Martin, and his brother J. E. Harshfield. He is survived by his wife Marjorie; his four children Dianna, David (Sandra), Dan (Pam), and Melinda (Bob); his grandchildren Kristin (Mike), Matthew, Adam, Trey (Erin), Mark (Ashley), Michelle, Rose, Becca, William (Tamara), and Jessica; and his great-grandchildren Ellie, Cooper, Maddox, Max, and Lily.

In lieu of a traditional service, there will be a celebration of life graveside in Delaware, Arkansas, on Friday, December 27, 2019. His online guestbook is available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com

My sympathy to family and friends, may they be consoled. Met Mr. David only briefly but know he must have been a special person having raised such an outstanding son, Dan, our friend and former neighbor.
