James H. Potts passed away in his home on September 25, 2019 at the age of 89.
James Potts was the son of Cleve and Fannie Potts of Wilmar. He was born in Smackover, Arkansas on June 18, 1930. He was a graduate of Wilmar High School. After graduation, he proudly enlisted and went on to complete a twenty- year career in the U.S. Air Force as a flight crewmember, retiring in 1968 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He then returned to Monticello with his family, where he enrolled in UAM’s pre-med program and, in 1977, became a dentist after graduating from the University of Memphis Dental School. He had a thriving solo practice in Monticello and retired in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beatrice Potts Bird of Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Potts is survived by his children, Gary Potts and wife Susan of Monticello; Kenneth Potts and wife Debra of Carthage, Texas; Kelvin Potts and wife Cindy of Mustang, Oklahoma; Norman Potts of Winnsboro, Texas; Alan Potts and wife Nicole of Monticello and Robin Bays and husband David of Bentonville, Arkansas.
He is also survived by his wife, Rosina Potts, of Rogers, Arkansas and former wife and mother of his children, Hazel Potts of Monticello. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private burial at Rock Springs Cemetery will be set at a later date. The family requests no flowers or gifts, but that contributions be made to the charity of your choice, preferably one that gives aid to Alzheimer patients. Dr. Potts was my dentist when I was a kid. He was always gentle funny and made a little kid like me less afraid. So I will always remember his sweet gentle nature. I pray he rest in peace and prayers for his family.
