Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Mona “Mrs H.” Hrdlicka, age 85

Mona “Mrs H.” Hrdlicka passed away at the age of 85 on September 15, 2019.

The daughter of the late William and Stella (Martin) Brewster, she was born on December 2, 1933 in Blue Hill, Nebraska where she grew up in a town of 700 people.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Anthony “Tony” who she met and married in Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago the two owned and operated three currency exchanges, and after retiring to Hot Springs, AR they waited a few years before taking ownership and operating Hubbard Garden, Feed and Seed for many years. Even after the doors shut at Hubbard’s, Mona worked in downtown Hot Springs at the Spa Souvenir gift store and welcomed visitors to our national park.

In addition to working hard, Mona enjoyed living life. She was an avid sports fan and looked forward to watching football (New Orleans Saints particularly), golf, and baseball (rooting for the Chicago Cubbies). She loved eating good food, cooking her famous baked beans, knitting and crocheting blankets (including for babies at the hospital), and betting on the ponies. She had fun playing cards with her “31” club and picking winners with her Stockettes investment club.

A loving mother, she is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne (Renata) Hrdlicka and Scott (Sessi) Hrdlicka of Hot Springs; her daughter and son-in-law Karen (Jaime) Cangas of Plano, Texas; 8 grandchildren; a sister Marcia Woods; great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by her good friend James Sutherland.

In addition to her husband, Mona was also preceded in death by her son Curt (Sue) Hrdlicka, her sister Alice Schmitt, and her brother Wayne Brewster.

At her request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Arkansas Hospice or to the American Heart Association. Her ashes will be interred at the Westminster Presbyterian Church next to her longtime friend Bonnie Rueff.

She will be sadly missed by family and numerous friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to A Natural State Funeral Service, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas. 501-982-3400
