Douglas Kirk Atkins, age 61

Douglas Kirk Atkins, 61, passed away on September 29, 2019.  He was born on August 22, 1958 to the late Charles and Mary Atkins in De Witt, Arkansas.

Doug attended DeWitt Public Schools and was employed at Arkansas Petroleum in 1974.  After working countless jobs, trying to find his life career he decided law enforcement was his future.  Doug began his law enforcement career in 1984 at the Lonoke County Detention Center then he worked for the Carlisle Police Department and the Lonoke County Sheriff Department.  Where he had the pleasure of working side by side with his brother Dennis Atkins. Doug loved fishing, going to flea markets and collecting antiques. He was an avid Razorback supporter and loved “Calling the Hogs”.  Doug was always quick to say “It is what it is”

To Everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven. And these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jessie Charles and Mary Magedeline Atkins; Richard and Blanche Mack; his brothers Andy Atkins and Bobby Atkins.

Doug leaves behind to cherish his loving memories his siblings Brent Atkins (Pam), Dennis Atkins (Linda Holabird) and Judy Jones (Bobby); his children Rosemary C. White (John) and Shay Metcalf; his grandchildren Alyssa Maxwell, Julia White, Tyler Metcalf and Natalie Metcalf, as well as many extended family and friends.

    I worked with Doug at Lonoke PD. He will be missed.

    My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to all those he leaves behind. May they soon find some comfort. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace, and perpetual light shine upon them.
