Thomas Odell Thurgood Sr, 82, Carlisle AR. Passed away Wednesday November 20, 2019. Tom was born December 28, 1936 to Willie and Ruby Thurgood (Bulluck) in Humphrey Arkansas.
He grew up in Brewer bottoms south of Stuttgart, and joined the Air Force in July 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1963. Tom worked as a truck driver for over 55 years and farmed for several of those years. He and Zelma owned their own trucking company from 1980 until 2006.
He was preceded in death by His parents, Willie and Ruby (Bulluck) Thurgood, one sister Lucy May Pranter, and one daughter Terri Davis.
Survivors include; his wife Zelma Thurgood (Hassen) of 46 years, of the home. 5 children, Rhonda Reitz (Larry) of Conroe, Tx. Michael Swaim (Debbie) of Huntsville, Al. Ronnie Swaim (Lisa) of Tonganoxie, Ks. Kathy Edwards (David) of Hickory Plains, Ar. Tommy Thurgood Jr (Ann) of Pensacola, FL. His brother Eugene Thurgood (Reasel). His sisters Patricia Burns (Stephen) and Glenda Barnes (Bruce). Along with 18 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. Tom has always loved his family and has been a passionate example of what it means to be a man. He always had a smile and a hug that brought comfort and assurance.
Services will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot AR. Family will receive friends at 10am on Monday November 25, Service will follow at 11AM. Graveside will follow at Salem Cemetery near Butlerville.
In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations for “Arkansas Pilots For Christ Inc.”

Mrs. Zelma, there are no words! We are praying for your peace in knowing Mr. Tom is with Jesus. He will be greatly missed by anyone that had the privilege to know him. Such a loving and kind man. I am so very sorry!!
