Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Cody V. Sublett, 35

Cody V. Sublett, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Though he left us days prior to his 36th birthday, Cody’s impression on everyone that he met, knew, and loved was indelible and meaningful.

An Army veteran with a penchant for keeping himself busy with carpentry—“The Cadron Creek Craftsman” will have his window stickers, irreverent TV clips, and handiwork in the community for many years to come — Cody was all Conway, through and through. He grew up in Conway and graduated from Conway High School, attended Hendrix College, and after serving his country honorably, spent his final years in his hometown plying his trade, entertaining his broad circle of friends, and advancing the cause of mental health advocacy and other causes dear to his heart.

He was the unofficial Selfie King of Conway, dressed for various events anywhere between stylishly and loudly, a masterful de facto observational comedian with a perfect natural deadpan, and sometimes an all-out knucklehead in the best and most endearing sense of the word. He relished the opportunities to commiserate with friends, to spend time with his beloved family, and to contribute whatever time or resources he could to those in need. When Cody knew that someone needed something, he would take it on as his personal project and run with it.

Cody snapped countless selfies with friends, doled out an untold amount of cheek-kisses to greet those he loved, and maintained his keen sense of humor, his innate kindness, and his huge heart even if his health was suffering. He built beautiful, visionary things for many, and his craftsmanship will be in the homes and workplaces of many Arkansans for years to come. Cody left his unique imprint on the world in many ways, was quick to converse about any number of topics, and advocated for those who were less fortunate. Noted in his last years for his ever-bushy beard, he left this world in a far better place than it was before he arrived, and at the center of his own world was his wife, Kelly, and two children, Presley “PK” and Keaton, and adored them unceasingly.

Left to cherish Cody’s memory are his wife Kelly, daughter Presley Kate and son Keaton. Also, his parents Rick and Peggy Sublett; his siblings Pamela Cox (Justin), Jesse Sublett (Holly), Whitney Black (Brandon), Drew Cooper (Alexis), seven nieces he truly adored and Kelly Allen. He is survived also by his grandparents Vernon and Juanita Sublett; uncles Jeff Sublett and Greg Sublett (Amber), a robust extended family and a world of friends.

In lieu of flowers, Cody’s family ask donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation (michaeljfox.com) for Parkinson’s Research so that we may find a cure for this devastating disease.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at New Life Church in Conway, Arkansas, with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m.

Arrangements entrusted to A Natural State Funeral Service, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. 501-982-3400

My husband and I met Cody when he was just 18 years old and a life guard at Cadron Valley Country Club. We instantly became friends! and even more than friends, Cody became a part of our family. I remember how excited he was for us to meet Kelly for the first time and after one meeting we knew they were meant for one another. Kelly, he absolutely adored you and the kids. Our family is praying for you with all that we have 🙏🏻 We love you very much! Cody, This world was so much brighter and funnier with you in it. I’ll miss your sweet smile and your friendship for the rest of my life! Give Robin a big hug from me ❤️ Fly high my sweet brother.

He was my “adopted” son who stayed with me his last few weeks in the Army. I missed him so much after he left. I am so thankful we saw him in September. Enjoy Heaven Cody. We’ll see you again one day.

I will truly miss Cody. Though we didn’t see each other much as adults, we grew to be friends in high school as we swam together & laughed at football games- he was the best mascot. It was so good each se bumped into each other. We picked up our conversations so easily. He always asked about my mom as well. The care & attention he gave to someone when he spoke will never be matched. I’m praying for peace in the storm & restoration of many broken hearts.

I am just heartbroken about Cody. I have known him since he was a little boy that lived on Krystal Kreek, to him being at Bob Courtway Middle School to the man, husband, father he became. May God wrap his arms around the family and give you peace through this season in life. I am sending prayers your way. I am just so sorry for your loss. He was one of a kind. I will always treasure my memories of him.

Some people live to be 100 and never leave heart prints like Cody did. My heart breaks for you, Kelly, the babies and rest of the family. A guy like Cody doesn’t really leave though – he’s here in every community event, selfie, and prank. He lives on in our community through the way he embraced us all.

I remember texting, then calling Cody, to ask him about doing some carpentry work. Never having met him, you would have thought we were old friends. We talked for quite awhile during that 1st phone call. He made me feel like I was his family. I’ll never forget when our daughter and grandkids needed camping equipment for a Cub Scout camping trip, she posted on Facebook asking if anyone had camping equipment she could borrow. Guess who was the 1st to respond?…Cody! He said he had a tent she could borrow. When she went to his house to pick it up, he explained exactly how to set it up. I later sent him a text thanking him for loaning the tent to her. His response was, “No problem, sister. Anytime!” He was a unique, kind, thoughtful man who will be greatly missed. RIP Cody!

  • Daniel Daves Posted January 20, 2020 6:31 PM

Cody was a good friend of mine through high school and for many years after. We played baseball together on a team my dad coached, inspiring Cody to call him “Coach” from then on. Cody had me to his home to hang out and watch movies regularly. He and his brother Drew, another friend of mine, brought me to Oaklawn with them for my first time. He invited me to his church several times. Cody was always up for an adventure in his Jeep Cherokee or just hanging out with any of his many friends.

My deepest condolences to his family.

I can’t find the words to explain Cody, so I’ll simply this. Cody was a true Southern Gentleman. He would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it (even if it was a bit too small)

My prayers and condolences are with you and your family Peggy. We have sweet memories that we giggle about to this day of when Cody and Erick would play together at our house. And even back then taking selfies. We lived diagonally across the street from you guys in Conway in 1996 or ‘97. We are truly sorry for your loss. May God bless you and your family.

  • Shalea Givan Posted January 21, 2020 10:39 AM

No one can truly explain the way it feels to lose a loved one. I knew Cody through school until graduation. We travel in different directions afterwards but we don’t forget those that are so kind and humble. My condolences to the family. I can understand your pain for him not being here. Just know he lives on in our hearts through the time and memories lived and created. Cody most definitely will be missed. May God Carry all of his family but place his hands around his children and his wife that they may come to be at peace. Amen

My heart is broken for Kelly, the kids, Rick, Peggy and all who loved Cody. He was an attentive friend to many. I remember how excited he was about Kelly. I have their wedding month and day etched into my memory because of the many times that he mentioned it. He loved PK so much, and was thrilled about their son. I hope that he knew how loved he was. I’m certain Jesus has shared with him about the many lives that he touched. Kelly and the entire family will be in my prayers for the weeks and months to come. Thank you sharing him with us. I am thankful that Jesus caused our paths to cross. Much love to all.

Though I didn’t learn of your passing until a few days ago, after several long cries, I have good and fond memories of you and your quirky sense of humor. I truly miss you, my dear friend. Even though we only met in person once and only for a few minutes, I enjoyed our long talks. My heart goes out to all your family, especially Kelly and your little ones. I can’t begin to imagine their pain, sense of loss, and grief during this difficult time. I wish I could ease their hurt. All of the smiles you inspired left this world a better place. Rest in peace, sweet friend.
