Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

John “Mark” Pouncey, age 57

John “Mark” Pouncey was born May 30, 1962 in Cleveland, Texas to Mary Jo (Carter) and David Pouncey. He departed this life December 21, 2019 at the age of 57 years.

He is survived by three sisters; Karen Maloney (Jim) of Tulsa, OK, Terri Pouncey of Shell Knob, MO, and Susan Wade (Dillard) of Eureka Springs, AR and one brother Steve Pouncey (Debbie) of Eureka Springs, AR; three nephews Daniel and Matthew Maloney, Dakota Pouncey; one niece Emily Pouncey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents

Mark was born a ramblin’ man and wherever he laid his hat was his home. He rambled all over this country for work and fun. He had seen and done things most of us only dream about.  One of his big moments was driving an actual NASCAR race car at the KC speedway. No matter where his travels lead him he always returned to his beloved hometown of Eureka Springs, his family and many friends.

Mark was well known for his very unique laugh and the infamous train whistle. Both of which could be heard at any given moment as he paddled up and down the Kings river, his favorite place on earth! He had a love for all animals, but especially dogs.

A memorial service will be held Saturday January 11, 2020 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church 763 Passion Play Rd, Eureka Springs, AR 72632

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s honor to: Good Shepherd Humane Society  6486 Hwy 62 W, Eureka Springs, AR 72632  https://www.goodshepherd-hs.org  and/or The Kings River Watershed Partnership P.O. Box 961  Berryville, AR 72616

Arrangements were entrusted to A Natural State Funeral Service, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas.  501-982-3400

I haven’t frequented Eureka as often as I would have liked the past years but when we would run into each other Mark was always genuinely interested to how I was doing and what I’ve been up to. We usually parted ways with him saying to let him know if I ever needed help with anything. I’m glad to have known him. My condolences to Mark’s family.

Mark will be missed and will always remember him as a good and special friend. Wish he could have stayed with us but may his soul and spirit fly free and follow that old river that he loved. He left lots of good memories.

Mark was a good friend of mine and I am so sorry for your loss. We have known each other for years and I never saw him where his didn’t have a huge smile He always made me laugh. When we worked together he always made sure I was ok or made the effort to see if I needed anything. We worked outside and on more than one occasion in the middle of winter he would start his truck and turn the heat on for me or give me the only jacket he had. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. I will miss you Mark your sweet smile your love of animals and your warm heart ♥️
