Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Dorothy Helen Menning, age 93

Dorothy Helen Menning, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 13, 2020. She was born an only child in Jamestown, NY on January 4th, 1927. When she was 15 her family moved to southern California. At the age of 20 she married Lloyd Menning. They both attended Central College in Pella, Iowa. After Lloyd graduated, they moved to Holland, Michigan where Lloyd enrolled in seminary. Their first child, Linda was born in Michigan in 1950. Dorothy was a wonderful piano player. She played the piano in the five different churches where Lloyd served as pastor through the years. She also taught Sunday school. Their first assignment after seminary was to a small church in Kentucky. Their second child, John, was born in Kentucky. Their third child, Paul, was 9-months old when he died of a heart condition in 1958.  Lloyd and Dorothy moved the same year that baby Paul died to begin a new church near Los Angeles. They ministered to many people and watched several come to Christ. After 8 years in the Los Angeles area they moved to Tucson, AZ.  After Linda and John had graduated from high school, Dorothy became a nurse. She served at Easter Seals camps. After four years in Tucson they moved to Des Moines, Iowa.  After serving a church there they moved to Modesto, CA to shepherd their 5th church.  In 1986 Lloyd retired and they moved to Bryant, Arkansas to be near Linda’s family. Dorothy led bible studies and continued to minister to family, friends, and even strangers. She was a dedicated prayer warrior and an amazing influence in the life of her family.

Knowing Dorothy was one of God’s precious gifts to me. She reflected Christ everywhere she went. I treasure many things she shared in Bible study discussions and many things she taught me without having to use words.

Dorothy was one of the sweetest, most Godly saints I have ever had the privilege to encounter. I only knew her after her stroke, but, she always had a smile on her face…and always had the best attitude about her condition. She was an encouragement to everyone she met. I wish I had known her before her stroke! Thank You, Lord God, for bringing such a special person into my life! She has left an indelible legacy, not only in my life, but in the lives of so many others. A worthy goal for us all!!

Dorothy and Lloyd were a wonderful blessing to the Robinson family at the Platt Ranch Community Church near Los Angeles. Dorothy’s sweet spirit and encouraging countenance were an inspiration from God. We all grew in faith and grace because of their friendships and leadership!!!

We all know that Dorthy was a true Angel that was sent down by God to bless us all and save some of us.

I don’t know what my life would have been like if I Wasn’t lucky enough to have met her at the age of nine. I was a great little sneak but while having Dorthy as a Sunday school teacher she made sure that I met Jesus.

She meant so much to me of course—like to anyone that was blessed enough to know her.

It is a good thing that she was was an Angel — but with me— she also had to be a saint. And of course she was.

She was also my piano teacher for years. I loved piano lessons. Of course I never practiced I just loved her lessons. So I never got past a beginner. “Oh my”—-Instead of Dorthy scolding me— she knew I liked to attempt hymns — very unsuccessfully of course.—-so she searched for a beginner hymn book. Not an easy task 😊 —but Of course she was successful.

I finally practiced and after years of lessons I was able to play a beginner book 😊.

Part two —this site cut me off/-don’t think so. Lol .

I love her whole family. I am so very lucky that they were all in my life. But Dorthy was my favorite. Lol. How Could she not be? 😇. I love her and them, so much!!

Thank you so very much. I am so blessed by this one family. ( okay I have to admit. I love Lloyd just as much—— but that is so very much!). They are true gifts from God. Gifts that have never been matched. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love , sally. (And I am so lucky that she loved me)
