Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Reverend James Theo Davis, 82

Reverend James Theo Davis, 82, of Cabot, Arkansas, was born on July 20, 1937 in Pollard, Arkansas and left his earthly home for his heavenly mansion on May 15, 2020.

Brother Davis was 13 years old when he felt the call to the ministry & devoted the majority of his life to the work of the Lord.  As a young man living in Michigan, his pastor encouraged him to move to Arkansas and begin his ministry under the leadership of Reverend George Riley.   Following the call of the Lord, he uprooted his young family and moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas where he became the youth leader of that assembly.  He served several years in that capacity.  Sometime later while working as a glazier for Valley Glass of Hot Springs, he became the first pastor to Jessieville Jesus Name Pentecostal Church.  His faithful congregation grew to around 100, along with a children’s bus ministry equally as large.  Around 1977, he felt the Lord deal with him to begin a work in the Furlow community in Lonoke, Arkansas, where he founded Lighthouse Tabernacle.  During his time there, he also served as the State Presbyter, State Youth Director and on the Licensure Board of the Associated Brotherhood of Christians.  Upon retirement, Reverend Davis became a member of the First Pentecostal Church of North Little Rock, Arkansas, under the leadership of Bishop J.N. Holmes and Pastor J. Nathan Holmes, where attended for close to 16 years.  During this time, he kept busy buying/selling investment properties, and reached one of his biggest goals of becoming debt free!   As his health started to decline, he began attending New Life Church of Cabot, Arkansas, with his daughter, Gwen, under the leadership of Pastor Tim Gaddy, where he worshipped until he was no longer able to attend service.

Reverend Davis was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Davis; brothers – Reverend Lewis Davis, Harold Davis and Reverend Gerald Davis; and sisters – Charlotta Whitehead and Juanita Smith.

He survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma Jean Jackson-Davis; children – Richard Keith Davis (Linda) and Gwendolyn Denise Davis-McKinnon (Darrell); grandchildren and great-grandchildren – Nick McKinnon (Leslie) and their children Emma, Griffin and Nolan James; Madeline McKinnon-Clouette (TJ) and their children Brooklyn, Lola, Mason and Saylor; Christy Davis Hamilton, and her son Brenden; Kevin Davis (Leslie) and their children Tristan and Cammie; Mandy Fenwick (Brandon) and their son Kanyon; Chuck Staggs (Carrie) and their children Gabe, Garrett and Audrey; Kacy Ashley, and her children Hayden, Matt and Sam; and Lewis Anderson (Cassie) and their children Lauren, Reed and Tucker.

He is also survived by one sister – LaWanda Wright (Don); sisters-in-law – Patricia Davis and Joyce Davis, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Reverend James Davis’ celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 2pm at New Life Church, 107 Commercial Street, Cabot, Arkansas, officiated by the Reverends Tim Gaddy, Joel N. Holmes and J. Nathan Holmes II.  Burial will follow the service at Mt Carmel Cemetery in Cabot, Arkansas.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, May 18, 2020 at New Life Church of Cabot, Arkansas.

In light of the current health situation, COVID-19, anyone feeling ill should refrain from attending the services and view the celebration via the Facebook accounts for New Life Cabot and/or A Natural State Funeral Service. Please be aware, as per Arkansas directives, there will be a limit of 50 guests, all guests over age 10 must wear a face covering to attend and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Bro. Davis was an awesome man of God. You never saw him without a smile on his face and he always had something positive to say. He will be greatly missed, but oh how happy he must be. Resting in peace and free from sickness and pain. We will see you soon Brother Davis!

I have so many sweet memories of spending time with my cousins, James & Jean, over the years, it would take a book to share them all. He was there for me when my dad passed in 1969, & again when I lost my son 2 years ago. Even though he was very ill at the time, he came over 2 hours to conduct the services for me. One of my favorite memories of him, & the last time I got to see him. He was always there anytime I called on him for advice. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried & had so much fun together. He was always kidding & picking on me, & always knew how to make me laugh. I will always treasure the times I’ve had with he & Jean. Our lives will surely not be the same without him, but Heaven is a little sweeter to me now, knowing I will see him again soon. I know he is pain free, & that makes my heart happy. You are all in my thoughts & prayers, now & in the days to come. I love my Davis family.

We are Praying for your family for Peace, Comfort and Strength. I would often Thank Pastor Davis and Sister Davis for the eternal impact their family and ministry made in my life. When I was in the lowest point in my life I walked into Lighthouse Tabernacle into the Presence of the Lord and I knew I was Loved and I surrendered my life to the Lord. Pastor Davis baptized me in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ and I am forever Grateful for the Eternal impact this Family and ministry have made in my family’s life. Words cannot truly describe my deepest gratitude. Sincerely, Thank You.
