Huey Robert DeSoto, Sr, age 88

Huey Robert DeSoto, Sr. age 88, departed for heaven on June 13, 2020, at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was born February 15, 1932 in Homer, Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Doris Pace DeSoto, his parents, Julius Landrum DeSoto and Mildred Martha Willis DeSoto, his son, Joel Langford DeSoto, and siblings, Jack Glen DeSoto, Charles Lee DeSoto, Billy Wayne DeSoto, Ethel Jean DeSoto-Childress, Mary DeSoto-Weber, and Julius DeSoto Jr.

He is survived by his children, Nancy DeSoto of Jacksonville FL; Huey and Vanessa DeSoto of Keller, TX; Susan and Marlon Alarcon of Benton, AR; Ernest and Sherri DeSoto of Sheridan, AR; Roger and Nancy DeSoto of Avondale, AZ; and, Randy DeSoto of El Dorado, AR; brother Joe DeSoto and sister Martha Cumbie.

A loving grandfather to 14 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, he was blessed with many loving and caring nieces and nephews.

As young adults, both he and Doris were born-again Christians.  Huey was baptized at Immanuel Baptist Church in Magnolia. A man committed to his faith in Christ, he served as a Deacon in the Baptist Church for many years.

He started his career in the US Air Force and served his country during the Korean War while stationed in Japan. He later worked in Civil Service at the Pine Bluff Arsenal while also serving in the National Guard where he retired from both. Late in his working career, he also retired from Cooper. 

He loved coaching baseball. Throughout his life he was always a man of integrity, taught his children morals and loved unconditionally. He loved watching and listening to the preaching’s of Billy Graham, loved watching western movies, fishing, and sports. He was an avid Razorback fan and loved to fish.  In his last days, he was ready and excited to finally meet Our Lord and Savior, and to be reunited with his loving wife, son, and all his family that went before him.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, June 20, 11 AM at the Arlington Cemetery near Homer, Louisiana. After the Service, please join the family at the Lake Claiborne State Park Event Center. Food will be served, and memories shared. 

The family extends gratitude to the Medical Center at South Arkansas and staff in El Dorado, and Lifetouch Hospice for their care and compassion. The family requests memorial donations be made to Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA), and Lifetouch Hospice 2301 Champagnolle Rd., El Dorado, AR 71730.

    My sincere condolences for my cousins at this loss. Uncle Huey is back to his ole energetic self and having a glorious experience with his Lord. I’m thankful for his expression of love for the Lord, learning and loving his family and getting to know him. He valued everyone he met.

    He was a great friend and I really enjoyed working with him and knowing at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He was always smiling and quick with a word to make you smile. Enjoyed sharing a birthday with him.
