Barbara Joan (Shireman) Schaefer, 83

Barbara Joan (Shireman) Schaefer passed away Friday, August 21, 2020, after a long fight with Alzheimer’s.  She was 83.

Barbara was born on November 16th, 1936 to Jesse Roy Shireman and Molly Mae (Hamler) Shireman in Reydell, Arkansas.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Molly Shireman, sisters Juanita Cain, Emma Hill, Sybil Owens, Reba Greenhill, Naomi Shireman, and Joyce Sisemore along with brothers Jesse Roy (JR) Shireman, Robert Shireman, and Gerald Shireman.  She is survived by her son, Mark Schaefer (Laura) of Sherwood, AR and daughter, Patrice Shireman (Bobby) of Pangburn, AR.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Steven Brown (Sanfora) of Colorado Springs, CO,  Brooke Schaefer Hayes (Jonathan) of North Little Rock, AR, Blaine Schaefer, and Abby Schaefer of Sherwood, AR and four great-grandchildren, Paisley, Schaefer & Wyatt Hayes all of North Little Rock, AR and Jacy Benefield of Colorado Springs, CO.  She has 2 surviving siblings, Kenneth Shireman (Kreola) and Carletta Kelly (Coy) both of Searcy, AR along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She spent 30 years employed at Dillard’s McCain where she took special care of her customers. She loved to bowl and was the first woman in Arkansas to bowl a 600 series which she did for 3 games.  She also loved doing arts and crafts – especially ceramics, and spending time with family. Above all, the most important thing in her life was her relationship with Jesus Christ.  She was a longtime member of Park Hill Baptist Church for 40+ years.

In light of the current health concerns, Barbara’s family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers if you are not able to attend the service. Please be aware, as per Arkansas directives, there will be a limit on the number of guests, all guests over age 10 must wear a face covering to attend and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, August 26th at 10am at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock with a graveside following at Philadelphia Cemetery in Sunnydale, AR at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Hill Baptist Church, 201 E. C Avenue, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116 or Alzheimer’s Association, 10201 W Markham St Suite 100, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.

    Barbara was and will always be a beautiful soul. We will miss her at every family gathering and will remember her for all her kindness and love she gave so freely.

    What a lady Barbara was and dearly loved by all that knew her. She met many people through bowling and through her work. Many people would not go shopping at the mall without going by to see her. always a lady. Prayers for all the family and many friends.

    Barbara and I were in SS department at Park Hill Baptist Church together. One of the sweetest ladies I have ever known. She always had a smile for you and she treated everyone with so much kindness!

    Mark and Patrice you are in my thoughts and prayers. I loved working with and being friends with your mom for 30+ years and also going to church with her. She was a wonderful Christian woman❤️❤️
