Zelma Dail Thurgood, age 81

Zelma Dail Hassen Thurgood, 81, Carlisle, AR. Passed away Friday January 29, 2021. Zelma was born July 22, 1939 to Elsie and Sam Hassen Sr. in San Fernando Valley, California.

 

She worked as a truck dispatcher for 17 years. Zelma and her late husband Tom owned their own trucking company from 1980 until 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Sam Hassen Sr.; Her Husband Thomas Thurgood; and one daughter Terri Davis; and siblings Ray Hassen, Geneva Moore, and Sam Hassen Jr.

Survivors include 5 children, Rhonda Reitz (Larry) of Conroe, TX. Michael Swaim (Debbie) of Huntsville, AL. Ronnie Swaim (Lisa) of Tonganoxie, KS. Kathy Edwards (David) of Hickory Plains, AR. Tommy Thurgood Jr (Ann) of Pensacola, FL. Along with 18 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren; siblings Thomas Hassen (Geneva) of Cabot, AR. And Janie Clark (Carthel) of Malvern, AR. Zelma has always loved her family and has been a passionate example of what it means to be a mother and grandmother. She always had a smile and a hug that brought comfort and assurance.

 

In light of the current health concerns, Zelma’s family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers if you are not able to attend the service. Please be aware, as per Arkansas directives, attendance will be regulated in accordance to Arkansas guidelines, all guests in attendance will be required to wear masks/facial coverings and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Services will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot AR. Family will receive friends at 10am on Wednesday February 3, 2021 Service will follow at 11AM. Graveside will follow at Salem Cemetery near Butlerville.

In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations for “Arkansas Pilots For Christ Inc.”

    I will always remember your mom with a smile on her face and a big hug. She could find the humor in most situations. I will miss her.

    thoughts and prayers go out to your family ,It was a pleasure living next door to your family and knowing your mom and dad until you all moved away . sure do miss Terri, we went to opposite jr highs , but it was a challenge with no car to come there ,

    Tom. .. I am so very sorry and am praying for you during this time! Zelma always had a hug for me and information about your dad when he was unable to come to church! She always treated me like family and I loved them BOTH so much! Prayers, my friend!
