Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Charles William McDougall Jr., age 86

Charles William McDougall Jr., a recent resident of Maumelle, died June 9, 2021. He was born in Stuttgart, AR on August 10, 1934, to CW McDougall and Laura Viola Bouck McDougall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Laura Spicer, and daughter Charla Jo Stone.

A long-time resident of Stuttgart, Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jo Garot McDougall, son Charles William (Duke) McDougall the 3rd (Lori), son in law Chris Stone, sister-in-law Nancy Garot Reynolds (Gus), and grandchildren Tanner Stone (Andrea), Chandler Stone, Lauren Stone Bracken (Brad), Shea Stone Rivera, Merritt McDougall, Collin McDougall (Katie) as well as a host of great grandchildren.

Charles was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He farmed for 25 years near Stuttgart, AR. At 70 years of age, he found a second career as a commercial real estate appraiser based in Kansas City. He was highly respected in many states as an appraiser, he was Vice President at Adamson & Associates and a member of the appraisal Institute as well as many others. He also served on the Drier Board at Riceland Foods, the National Rice Council, and the Stuttgart School Board where he took the unpopular stance for public school integration. He was known for his hearty laugh, his listening skills, quiet demeanor, quick wit, and love of upscale classy ties. He enjoyed travel. His son especially remembers surprise trips, destination untold, his dad saying they are going to “Gazpada” _but ending up in California or Key West. He also had a fond love for history and chocolate milk shakes.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, P.O. Box 1691 Merriville, VA 22116.

The family wishes to thank Maumelle Companion Care, Sheena McDaniel, Tim Lipscomb, Cheri Lipscomb, Megan Lipscomb, Shania Hartley, J.R. Rose a good family friend and caregiver and the many caregivers for their compassionate loving care in the last months of Charles’s life.

Paul and I hold fast to our love for Charles and our happy times together. It hurts to lose this kind, wise man of great wit. He will forever live as a model for us—how we can find humor and irony every day, how we must laugh no matter what.

Charles was a kind, generous, and very bright man. His love for Jo was always apparent in his comments and shone in his eyes. The many wonderful evenings Bill and I spent with them are cherished memories. Charles, thank you for being a gentle, positive spirit on the planet. Love and Godspeed from Sue Trowbridge

Charles was the epitome of a gentleman. Humble, quiet, quick with laughter, supportive–a gentle giant. He complimented Jo’s free, artistic spirit, it seems, in the same way my Bob supports me. Nothing could be more valuable to an artist like Jo. We felt bolstered knowing that Charles was on the planet, even if we didn’t often get to see him in recent years. His memory and example will continue to bolster us. Our deepest sympathy go out to Jo, their children, and grandchildren, family, and friends.
