Joe you will be deeply missed. My heart is sadden, because your are gone. We argued like a sister and a brother. You never gave me the last word, I normally just took it. You were a sweet southern gentleman, I will always adore you. You were in my thoughts all last week, I am sorry I did not slow down to call you. You often told me you would not make it to heaven, but I always reminded you that I was praying for you. So Joe I will see you when I get there. Love your friend forever and always. Dave he love you dearly too, I have heard stories on you, Ginger and Helen
that will bring a life time of joy. It will be hard for you, but remember the good times and stay strong. God will never leave you, nor forsake you. Yeah thou we walk through the valley of the shadows of death we shall not fear, because God is with us. I am going to miss my friend, God knows his heart, and I will see him again.

David, I always enjoyed it when Joe and I chatted. He was such fun and so kind. I still have the balloon he brought this past Valentine’s Day. His favorite topic was you. He especially loved to talk about your trips and the special things he planned for you. Joe, may you rest in peace and rise in glory.

    • David A. Goins Posted May 25, 2024 7:27 PM

Thank-you so much for the lovely tribute, Kaki. Joe loved doing the balloons. I always wondered if the recipients actually enjoyed getting them or if they were just humoring him. I’m touched to know that you still have the last one he gave you.

  • Ruth Fissel Posted May 22, 2024 5:21 PM

Joe and I were neighbors for many years. We shared in the rescue of two wayward pups who happened to find our road. Joe adopted beautiful Frances and I adopted beautiful Sheba. We shared stories and pictures even after Joe moved on and created a new life with his beloved husband, Dave and their “girls”. We enjoyed many holidays and neighborhood get togethers, always a great host, cook, story teller and joker. Joe is by far one of the good ones gone way too soon. I do know there is quite the reunion with family, loved ones, friends and lots of wagging tails – Sheba & Francis leading the way. Rest Well Dear Friend. “OF my friend, I can only say this: OF all the souls I have encountered in my travels, he was the most human.” Dr. Spock.

    • David A. Goins Posted May 25, 2024 7:45 PM

Thank-you so much for the wonderful tribute, Ruth. Joe considered you a true friend and spoke of you fondly. Ever since we moved back to the area in 2015, Joe regularly said he needed to go visit you in the old neighborhood. I don’t know if he ever did, but I assure you he missed having you as a neighbor.

  • Veronica Talbert Posted May 22, 2024 11:03 PM

Thank-you so much for the kind words, Veronica. Helen and Ginger, our Boston Terriers, were his life and he would talk about them to anyone who would listen. Renêe’s family and mine appreciate the condolences.

  • Farah Chase Posted May 24, 2024 9:42 AM

Such a shock, and heartbreak! For Joe’s family, please accept my condolences. I met with Joe in Jonesboro just days before his passing. We laughed more in my interview than I think the state actually allows. When Joe found out how much I had on my plate, and that I was feeling scatter-brained he immediately proceeded to tell me brain teaser jokes. He got me, too! I think it truly tickled him as he smiled from ear to ear.

I also had the pleasure of working with Joe in his department during the pandemic; truly a great group of people, and Joe was the rule not an exception.

I’ve lost much of my family, so I know words don’t really help much. Though hearing from those my dad worked with was comforting. Therefore, I hope you are comforted knowing Joe was loved as much at work as he was at home, and in the really tough times, I hope your many, many memories of Joe will bring you peace. Bless you all.

    • David A. Goins Posted May 25, 2024 8:01 PM

Thank-you so much for the beautiful tribute, Farah. Yes, hearing from those who worked with Joe is bringing me a lot of comfort this lonely Saturday night. I have tears in my eyes yet a big smile on my face knowing my beloved Joe touched so many people. I truly appreciate your memories of Joe.

  • Jane Ballard Posted May 29, 2024 8:24 PM

This has taken me a while. Joe was my brother from another mother. He was there whenever I needed him. His adjectives and adverbs to give a food review still make me laugh. I loved him dearly and he is missed.

Thanks for the kind words, Jane. Joe really liked working with you.
