Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

William “Willie” Sherwood Gold, age 84

William “Willie” Sherwood Gold, age 84, passed to his eternal home on June 21,2024.  Willie was born to the late William Seigal and Minnie Lou Gold on October 10, 1939 in Lonoke, Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Seigal and Minnie Lou Gold, his late wife Fay Gold, and his siblings: Robert “Bob “Gold, Betty O’Kelley, and Patsy Scarbrough.

He is survived by his wife Glenda, who brought him much joy, one son Dwight {Susie} Gold, three daughters, Janet {Calvin} King, Sheila {Roger} Lynch and Tammy Gold, all of Lonoke.  He is also survived by his two bonus daughters, Wendy {Kevin) DeVore of Beebe, Christi (Jimmy) Cannon of Tupelo MS, a host of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.

At the age of 16, Willie married Fay Horton Gold. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage and raised their four children in Lonoke on their land often referred to as “Goldville”.

At the age of 34, Willie surrendered to the ministry. For more than 45 years he pastored several churches, held revivals and particularly enjoyed prison ministry alongside his daughter, Janet King.

Willie was a huge fan of the great outdoors.  He could work up the world’s largest garden spot yielding enough produce to share with the entire countryside.  His carpentry skills were among the best.  He could turn a scrap of wood into a masterpiece. Also, very dear to his heart were his grandchildren who could put a smile on his face quicker than anything. Last but not least were his beloved pets:  Bear, Tucker, and Bella who rarely left his side.

He was a great father, husband, PaPaw, mentor, counsellor, and pastor who truly practiced what he preached.  His legacy will live on in the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.  He may have likely been greeted by his Heavenly Father with the words: “Well done my good and faithful servant”.

A family-hosted memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 2:00pm at Grace Chapel Baptist Church; 611 Smyrna Rd, Lonoke,  AR.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willie’s favorite charity:

I have good memories of traveling around Arkansas playing the piano for Bro Willie and Dwight and Brenda back in the day and heard him preach many times. He
    did practice what he preached.
