Hilda Anna Tosh was born Oct 29, 1928, in Burlington, Vermont to Frederick and Bertha (Vaughn) Utter. Hilda proudly lived 96 ½ years, passing on April 27th, 2025, at Spring Creek Health and Rehab, Cabot, AR.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents and her siblings: Charles, Cornelia, Lillian, Kenneth, Norman, Millard, and Doris.
Hilda worked in the Boston Naval shipyards during WW II and later moved to Alabama with her then husband, Johnny Calvert. She and Johnny had two sons, Kenneth Calvert (Anniston, AL), and the late Steve Calvert (Birmingham, AL). She is the grandmother to Chris Calvert (OK), Mark Calvert (FL), and Chae (Chris) Williams (AL). There are three great granddaughters, Caely (Michael) Morrison (GA), and Cortney and Chloey Williams (AL).
During her life, Hilda lived in various states, mostly residing in Bismarck, Arkansas. While in Bismarck, she cared for the late “Granny Meeks” of Bismarck, worked the laundry service at DeGray State Park Lodge, and was an inspector at the nearby sewing factory. She became a family friend of the late Frank and Ruth (Stinnett) Baker, residing in their home for about 40 years while helping to care for and becoming “granny” their special needs daughter, the late Shryl Baker. She also managed “Granny’s Cottages” for the Baker family for several years. She was a member of the Bismarck Pentecostal Church and served as its assistant secretary/treasurer for over 40 years. She wrote an autobiographical book, “Granny Tells Her Story”, published at the age of 84. Her favorite pastime was driving the country roads until she gave up driving at the age of 91. She spent her final years in the home of Shirley Dixon (Snellville, GA) and in the home of Paul and Theresa Mooney (Cabot, AR).
A memorial singing service, followed by a dessert social will be held at the Bismarck Pentecostal Church, Bismarck, Arkansas, officiated by Rev. Van Glidewell at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 31st. There will be no graveside service.
She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her while she rests in the arms of Jesus.

While we are feeling the loss immensely, I know that Heaven is rejoicing at the homecoming of God’s beautiful overcomer!
Hilda was such a guiding light for all. Even though we haven’t seen her in years we loved her. I met her through Nellie and I know they are rejoicing together with God! Prayers for the family and all the friends that she considered family! We’ll miss you my friend.
Hilda was a praying grandma. She was loved by many. She will be missed.
