John Luther Williamson, 76, of Cabot passed away on September 1, 2019. He was born in Cabot, Arkansas to the late Henry Lee and Ela-May Williamson on January 14, 1943.
John (Jaybird) started his career in the United States Navy where he proudly served as a Radar man and participated in the Bay of Pigs. He came back to Arkansas to marry his sweetheart and went to work with the Rock Island Railroad as a Car Foreman. Jay graduated trade school where he earned his degree as a Master Plumber. He later worked at Union Pacific Railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen; while still owning his own plumbing business. Jay retired after 43 years of dedicated service. Later Jay enjoyed sitting on the front porch, enjoying his coffee and watching the wildlife. Jay enjoyed hunting, gardening and visiting with family and friends. Johnny never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand where it was needed. John was always a man of his word and his word meant something. He was always just a phone call away.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years to cherish his memories, Thelma Dean Williamson; his children Melanie Williamson, Mark Williamson (Barbie McAdams) and Michael Williamson (Rebecca); “Papa’s” grandchildren Army Specialist Alex Williamson, Katlyn Williamson, Dalton Hammond and Ethan Williamson; a great-granddaughter Ava Grace Bates; his siblings Erma Hayes, Iva Kay Halsey (Glenn) and Chuck Williamson; as well as many friends and family.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 9, 2019 from 6pm – 8pm at A Natural State Funeral Service, 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel at A Natural State Funeral Service.
