In Loving Memory of
CHARLES H. NICKERSON
November 09, 1944 –June 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, Charles Nickerson, whose presence touched the lives of many and whose memory will be cherished forever. He gained his wings and crossed into his eternal heavenly home on Monday, June 30, 2025.
He entered this world on November 9, 1944, the only child of Leonard and Leuna Nickerson of Dallas, Texas. He embraced each day with kindness, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends and community.
His childhood dream was achieved with his BA and MPA from Southern Methodist University of Dallas. His chosen career was in City Management and Administration, proudly serving the citizens of Flower Mound and Arlington, TX; Little Rock, Benton and Texarkana, AR and Powder Springs, GA.
He was an avid and boisterous fan of the SMU MUSTANGS. He loved traveling, photography, antiquing and spending time with those he loved. He inspired those around him with wisdom, humor, and a gentle strength. Whether through his professional pursuits or personal passions, Charles left a legacy defined by excellence, compassion, and integrity.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael. His survivors include his wife, Linda Griffis Nickerson of Pine Bluff, AR; daughter Andra Nickerson of Bryant, AR; step children Thomas Ward (Sandra Honeysuckle) of Pine Bluff, AR and Cheryl Ward (Noel Donald) of Nashville, TN; a much loved granddaughter, Emily Ward of Bryant, AR; two beloved fur babies, Bubba and Abby; as will as extended family members & devoted friends.
His family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the nurses and doctors of Jefferson Regional Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care of Charles. Our hearts go out to our “earth angel”, Gloria Briggs, who so lovingly cared for our entire family during the last 2 years.
A Family-Hosted Time of Remembrance and Sharing for Charles will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, July 13 in the Chapel of Little Rock First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, Little Rock, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or charity of your choice.

Charles brought a professional, calm and caring approach to his role as City Manager in Little Rock and other communities he served. He was broadly recognized as a Servant Leader before that term was in popular use. He will be missed by many.
