George Harrell “Sandy” Williams II, age 70, passed away on July 8, 2025, in Shirley, Arkansas. Born on May 24, 1955, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, Sandy lived a life marked by passion, adventure, and an unwavering commitment to the people and pursuits he loved.

A graduate of Sylvan Hills High School’s Class of 1973, Sandy’s early years hinted at the vibrant and unconventional path he would follow. His voice first became known across the airwaves as “Sandy O’Connor,” an on-air radio personality who had the distinction of hosting the inaugural broadcast of Magic 105. His charisma and energy made him a memorable presence in Arkansas radio during its golden era.

Sandy’s love for music extended beyond the microphone. He went on to work as a promoter for Capitol Records and Polygram Records, helping to shape the careers of countless artists and bringing music to audiences far and wide. But true to his adventurous spirit, Sandy eventually set his sights skyward.

Leaving behind the music industry, Sandy pursued a new calling—aviation. What began as a fascination soon became his life’s passion. He piloted flights for Arkansas State Police, the well known “Friday Night Flights” with Steve “Sully” Sullivan and played a key role in developing several air medical evacuation programs but found his true purpose as an Angel One pilot. In this role, he dedicated himself to saving lives from above with skill and compassion. Even after retiring from active flight duty, Sandy continued to chase his dreams by earning his flight instructor certification. His ultimate goal—to own and pilot his own helicopter—remained close to his heart.

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, Margie Elizabeth Dixon Williams and George Harrell Williams of West Monroe, Louisiana. Though he had no surviving family members by blood, Sandy was surrounded throughout his life by a chosen family of friends who loved him deeply and stood by him through every chapter.

Known for his eccentric personality, generous heart, and infectious sense of humor, Sandy left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether riding motorcycles down winding roads, spinning records that stirred souls, or recounting tales from “the good ole days,” he brought joy and color into every room he entered.

His circle of friends—many of whom were like family—along with colleagues from both the music industry and aviation field will remember him not only for what he did but for who he was: bold, kind-hearted, endlessly curious, and always ready with a story or a laugh.  Those stories and laughs will carry on as we remember our friend at North Little Rock Moose Lodge.
