
Dennis Byrd a.k.a Papa Byrd, age 82, of Cabot, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2025, peacefully at his residence with his loving wife by his side.
He was born on December 11, 1942, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Ollie and Ruby Byrd. Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years as an intelligence analyst. Following his service, he dedicated his life to his family and his faith. He was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church in Cabot.
Dennis was preceded in death by his brothers James Byrd, Everett Byrd, and Ronald Byrd.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Rebecca Byrd; his daughter, Denise Byrd (Julius); his son, Kevin Byrd; his two bonus sons, Anthony Murphy (Khandi) and Jeremy Murphy (Cayla); and his bonus daughter, Jamie Taylor (Jason). He also leaves behind his sister, Ruby Lynn Faulkner, and a special sister-in-law, Margaret Byrd. Dennis cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his twelve grandchildren: Logan Bell (Onnie), Courtney Orona (Rocky), Nick Schenbeck, Braxton Murphy, Justin Murphy, Raelynn Murphy, Emma Taylor, Samuel Taylor, Lydia Taylor, Abigail Reid, Taylor Absure, and Anna Murphy; as well as his nine great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Nurse Sara and all the other nurses and CNAs with Arkansas Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and care during this time.
He loved spending time with his family, whether gathered together, or sharing everyday moments. He also enjoyed watching Judge Judy, a simple pleasure that brightened his days.
A family hosted celebration of life service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 11am at Victory Baptist Church 501 North Lincoln Street, Cabot, Arkansas, 72023. Ben Leonard officiating. A gathering of friends and family with begin at 10 am.
