Charles V. Mikel, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. Born on a snowy winter day on December 30, 1940 in Mishawaka, Indiana, Charles was the cherished son of Virgil and Florence Mikel. Raised on a farm, he carried the values of hard work, humility, and ingenuity throughout his life.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army before embarking on a long and dedicated career as a Professional Freight Relocation Engineer (Truck Driver) and Diesel Mechanic. In the early 1970s, he also served as an auxiliary police officer in Jacksonville, Arkansas, exemplifying his commitment to community and service.
A man of many talents and passions, Charles found joy in tending his hobby farm, cultivating a garden that was the envy of many. His green thumb earned him first prize at the state fair for growing a record-breaking 30-pound cantaloupe—a feat he spoke of with quiet pride. When not in the garden, he could be found in his garage, tinkering with engines and building motors with the precision and care of a true craftsman.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carolyn M. Mikel, their infant daughter, his son Ricky Mikel, his parents Virgil and Florence, and his siblings Bemis, Mary, John, Wilma, Ruby, Joy, Ruth, Virginia, and William.
He is survived by his second wife Marlene Mikel of Jacksonville, AR; his children Darrell Mikel of Cabot, AR; Robert (Courtney) Ruble of Cabot, AR; and Regina (Alan) Tripp of Booneville, AR. He also leaves behind his siblings Carolyn (Marvin) Rutherford of Bristol, TN; Erma Jackson of Elkhart, IN; and George Mikel of Bremen, IN. Charles was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many, all of whom will deeply miss his wisdom, warmth, and wit.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in Charles’s name, honoring his generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
Charles’s legacy lives on in the gardens he grew, the engines he built, and the hearts of those who loved him.
