Paul W. Hughes went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was surrounded by his loved ones and many friends.
Paul was born on April 25, 1954 to Thomas and Elsie Hughes of Griffithville, AR. He grew up in the country with many brothers and sisters who all played together and made great memories together.
Paul was known to be always busy. Whether it was finding a good fishing spot, mowing, or going to watch a local sporting event. If there was a ball in play, he was there to watch.
Paul never met a stranger and he loved his family fiercely. He and Betty had been together 44 years. They spent many years raising kids together and making a home. They started traveling in their later years, going to Kentucky and Indiana to visit family and traveling to Florida to see the ocean for the first time together.
Paul is preceded in death by his father Thomas Floyd; mother Elsie Hughes; his daughter Crystal Hughes; his sister Geneva Strayhorn; brothers Abner Daniel (Big Boy) Bill, Glen, Clyde, Wayne, and Michael Hughes; and last, but not least, his loving dog Lucky.
Paul leaves behind his wife Betty Hughes; his sisters Linda McAllister and Laverne Davis; his daughters Ann Bundy (Jack) and Jennifer Clark; sons Chelsey Shepard (Roxann), Jerry Shepard, and Randy Shepard (Sharon). He also leaves behind granddaughters April Moninger (James), Courtney Jones (Justin), Shadam Shepard, Megan Clark, McKenzie Clark, and Donna Smith (Judson); grandsons Denton Moss, Connor Clark, and Josh Shepard. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, many friends, and his church family.
A family-hosted Memorial will be held at Trinity Pentecostal Church in Higginson, AR at 2pm on April 3, 2026.
Arrangements by A Natural State Funeral Service 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com
