Phillip Hugh Autrey, 85, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at his home. Born in Conway, Arkansas, on October 17, 1940, Phil was a loving and caring uncle to his many nieces and nephews, whom he cherished as his own.
Phil graduated in 1958 from Misco School in West Ridge, Arkansas, where he played basketball. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, his career included driving a semi-truck for several years up north, opening a successful mechanic business in Vilonia, Arkansas, managing the Bayou Catfish House in Gravel Ridge, Arkansas, and finally returning to Vilonia to work as a ranch foreman until his retirement.
Throughout his life he was known for his powerful bass voice. He loved to sing with his family and often enjoyed karaoke nights with a few of his siblings and friends.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Autrey; his parents, James Clifton and Leah Autrey; four brothers, James Clifton (Margie) Autrey Jr., E.J. Autrey, Lloyd Autrey, and Billy Autrey; three sisters, Pat (F.A.) Gordon, Sammye (Stanley) Gordon, and Alice (Wesley) Williams; and longtime devoted companion, Mary McGonigal.
He is survived by two sisters, Nancy Logan of Cabot, Arkansas, and Janis Thompson of Bentonville, Arkansas; one brother, Tom (Sandi) Autrey of Scott, Arkansas; and sister-in-law, Frankie Autrey of Vilonia, Arkansas. He is also survived by his favorite niece, Sue Shock, and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States who will miss his spirit and song.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Trudy Collison for the wonderful care she provided to Phil when he needed it the most.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Southern Christian Children Home in Morrilton, Arkansas, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, as a tribute to Phil’s memory.
