Roger Louis McSwain, 84, of Memphis, passed away July 5, 2026 after a hard-fought battle with Dementia and sepsis from an infection.

Roger was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas on January 9, 1942 to Louis and Bernice McSwain. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1960. After high school he started college and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1966. In 1967, he met the love of his life on a blind date for an Atlanta Braves game. Somewhere in this timeframe, he managed to work as a Sports Director and did commentating on games for KDEW radio in DeWitt. In 1970, he graduated from what is now the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in Business Administration. He married Nancy McSwain of Atlanta, Georgia on July 2, 1971. Roger had a long career in sales and spent some time working for FedEx in Memphis until he fully retired. After their boys came along, he had to travel a lot but never really missed any of the important events. He was a man of great faith and a great example to his boys showing them that there was an important order to the things in this life: Jesus, family, then everything else. He was active as a deacon at Balmoral and Ridgeway Baptist Church. The boys have a lifetime of memories of fishing trips, ball games, dirt road riding on the wildlife refuge in and around his hometown of St. Charles, AR and many others. He truly inspired his sons when they saw him as their Mom’s caretaker for the years that she suffered from poor health.

Roger is survived by his sons, Lance (Vicki), and David; sister-in law, Carol Horton (Frank); niece Rebecca Jones (Kirk); nephew Bill Moon (Margaret); great-nephews, Austin Coleman, and Matt Moon; great-niece Abby Coleman; many special cousins and a host of loving friends.

Suzette and Ken Handwork, and their amazing team: Kayla O’Briant, Jenebeth Jeffery, Mary Ugadden, Mae Roberts, Misty Pearson, Dianna Minor, Linda Davis, LeeAnn Johnson, Hailey Axelson, Lisa Swaby and Kasmin Hillard. Southern Charm was truly an answer to prayer for the family for Dad to receive the best care possible during his final days. They were amazing and showed a tremendous amount of love, compassion, and care. Thanks also to Hospice Home Care and their staff of TJ Isbell, Brittany Knowles, Heather Lane, Ray Cleghorn and others. Thanks to Mike Cude of Senior Living Services as he was an invaluable resource and Mrs. Cathy Gross for all the love and compassion she showed our family.

A celebration of life will be held at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Memphis on 9/18/26 at 12:00 with Bro. Jerry McNeer of Grenada, MS officiating. The visitation will be at the church at 11:00. Military honors will follow at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00.
