Synthia Ann Kievit, age 89, of Austin, Arkansas, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 10, 2026. She was surrounded by her beloved family at the time of her passing.

Synthia, affectionately known as Sindy, was born on June 15, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio. Although she had resided in Arkansas for the past nine years, Saugatuck, Michigan, was always the place she called home. Sindy was a truly special woman who touched the lives of countless people. She worked for the Allegan County Department of Social Services in Michigan for more than twenty years, where she devoted herself to helping others.

Sindy loved many things, including reading, theater, journaling, and crafting. She especially enjoyed making napkin and pressed-flower note cards, birdwatching, spending time in the sun at the beach, listening to music, playing Bridge and Spinner, Willie Nelson, dogs, crocheting, watching Cash Cab, participating in drum circles, and roller skating in her younger years. She also found joy in cooking for those she loved. Some of her favorite specialties included deviled eggs, banana bread, cookies, lemon bars, sugar-free Jell-O, spinach rolls, and Cincinnati chili.

Her faith was an important part of her life. She faithfully watched Riverpoint Church services every Sunday morning and read daily devotionals. Prior to moving to Arkansas, Sindy was a member of Casco United Methodist Church in Michigan.

Sindy also loved to travel and was never in a hurry to reach her destination. For her, the greatest joy was found in the adventures along the way. She was also an enthusiastic collector. Among her many collections were antique American bottles, postcards, small glass birds, James Avery jewelry, miniature perfume bottles, pressed pennies, and cheese graters, just to name a few.

Above all else, Sindy loved people. Affectionately known as “Grams” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved her family and friends fiercely. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. She was truly a free spirit whose infectious joy and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Synthia was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Reva Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her beloved husband of more than 38 years, Warren “Buster” Kievit.

She is survived by her brother, Mark (Bonnie) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio; her three children; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild:

• Son, Michael (Sharon) Russell of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter Christina (Charlie) Baldwin and great granddaughters Margaret and Sarah; granddaughter Allie (Matt) Cooper and great-grandchildren Daniel, James, and Shelby.
• Daughter, Laura (Joe) Partain of Houston, Texas; granddaughter Jamie; grandson Adrian (Elida) Partain and great grandchildren Jade, Macy, and Ethan; grandson Banner Partain and great-grandson Noah; and great-grandsons Tyler Christian and Benjamin.
• Daughter, Patti (John) Veasman of Cabot, Arkansas; granddaughter Taylor (David) Johnson and great-grandchildren Paxton, Erik, and Penny; granddaughter Madelyn Bryce Veasman; grandson John Veasman and great-grandson Evan and great-great-granddaughter Everleigh, and great-grandson Cole; grandson Anthony (Kelsey) Veasman and great granddaughter Ella.

We celebrate that Sindy is at rest with her Lord and Savior.
