Buddy Leroy Ellis, 82, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026.

Born February 24, 1944, in Berryville, Arkansas, to Jack Ellis and Dorothy Boss Ellis. He was raised in Sarcoxie, Missouri.

Buddy proudly served his country in the United States Navy, joining in 1965 during the Vietnam War.

As an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class (AMH3), he maintained aircraft engines and equipment in one of the Navy’s most demanding environments. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze service star. During his service, Buddy survived a devastating flight deck accident when he was pulled into a firing jet engine and pulled out unharmed—an extraordinary testament to the resilience, courage, and determination that would define the rest of his life. He was honorably discharged in 1969 after four years of faithful service to his country.

Following his military service, Buddy built a distinguished career with United Parcel Service (UPS), where he retired as a highly skilled mechanic. His commitment to excellence was reflected in an outstanding safety record and unwavering work ethic.

While Buddy’s accomplishments were many, his greatest legacy was the life he lived and the example he set. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who quietly served others. Whether he was building an addition onto a family member’s home, repairing a friend’s property, or lending a helping hand to someone needing a tow on icy roads, he was a man of quiet strength—resilient, and dependable. He rarely worried, hardly ever became angry, and faced life’s challenges with a calm confidence that brought comfort to those around him. His kindness was genuine, his humility effortless, and his generosity knew no bounds.

Buddy loved life and embraced every adventure. He had a passion for fast cars, boats, and off-road racing, and was famously difficult to beat at a game of pool. An accomplished angler, Buddy had a remarkable gift for landing trophy largemouth bass, earning numerous awards and tournament honors over the years.

Those who knew him will forever remember his steady candor, his willingness to help anyone, and his remarkable ability to remain calm through life’s storms.

Buddy was preceded in death by his father Jack Ellis; mother Dorothy Ellis Filbeck; stepfather James Willard “Wid” Filbeck; beloved wife Carole Ann Ellis; daughter Gayla Ellis; grandson Bryce Ellis; granddaughter Lindsey Kay Ellis.

He is survived by his sister Judy Ellis Lee; children Brannon Ellis; Ricky Ellis (Alicia); Crystal Ellis Owonubi (Albert); step-daughter Pamela K. Carroll-Rouse (Adam). He also leaves behind grandchildren Lexie Ellis Brown (Logan); Whitney Owonubi Latture (Stuart); Micah Owonubi; Jayden Owonubi; step grandchildren Asher Helton; Paige Nicole Perrin; and Jade Santana Goode, along with many other extended family members and dear friends.

A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate a life well lived.

Buddy lived simply, doing what was right, working hard, taking care of the people he loved, and helping anyone in need. His strength was quiet, his generosity unwavering, and his example enduring. Those who knew him will remember not only what he accomplished, but the kind of man he chose to be every single day. His legacy will live on in the family he cherished and the friends he faithfully served.
