In Loving Memory of Alton Leonard “Leonard” Sprague

November 2, 1952 – August 16, 2026

Alton Leonard Sprague, lovingly known as Leonard, passed away on August 16, 2026, at the age of 73. Leonard lived his life with a spirit of adventure, a love for his family, and a belief that if you were going to live, you should live fully. His motto was simple: “Work hard, play harder.” And that is exactly how he lived.

Leonard loved to travel, explore, and learn. He had a special appreciation for history and enjoyed visiting national parks, discovering new places, and learning the stories behind them. He was happiest outdoors, whether he was riding one of his motorcycles, heading out on an adventure, or camping with his brothers. Some of his most treasured memories were made simply enjoying the outdoors with the people he loved.

He loved good food and was always willing to try something new. Music was another great love of his life, especially live music of any kind. Leonard could make an ordinary moment feel like an occasion. He had a joyous smile, a contagious laugh, and a gift for making things fun wherever he went.

And Leonard loved to talk. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and talk about just about anything. A stranger rarely stayed a stranger for long. He was genuinely interested in people, their stories, and the world around him.

Above all else, family and friends were the heart of Leonard’s life. He adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, extended family, and the special group of friends who became his beloved “Framily.” If Leonard loved you, you knew it. He was generous with his time, caring in his actions, and always willing to help.

To his family, Leonard seemed capable of doing just about anything. There was very little he wouldn’t attempt, figure out, fix, build, or learn. He taught those around him the importance of working hard while never forgetting to enjoy the life you are working so hard for.

Leonard was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Runnels; his father, Gus Ford Knight; his brothers, Kenneth Sprague, Gus Sprague, and Woody Knight; and his grandson, Alex Guillory.

He leaves behind a family who will forever carry his love and memories: his sons, Anthony (Lisa) Sprague and Jeremy Clifford; and his daughter, Allena (Malik) Mitchell.

He was a proud grandfather to Trevor Sprague, Ryleigh (Malcom) Sprague, Jager (Kelsey) Clifford, Tristin (Bailey) Clifford, Zoe (Paul) Farmer, and Eric (Madison) Guillory; and a beloved great-grandfather to Oliver Farmer, Penelope Clifford, and Statton Clifford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, along with countless friends and members of his cherished Framily.

Leonard leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind stories that will continue to be told, adventures that will be remembered, laughter that can still be heard when his family gathers, and a reminder to make the most of every day.

His family will remember the motorcycles, the camping trips, the music, the food, the conversations that could go on forever, the adventures, that unforgettable laugh, and most of all, the way he loved his people.

There was nothing he couldn’t do.

He was our adventurer, our storyteller, our laughter, our strength—and most of all, our Hero.
