Peggy Laverne Burchfield, 85, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, surrounded by her loved ones.
Peggy was born on June 15, 1941, in Woodson, Arkansas, to Robert Wayne McGhee and Captola Smith. For much of her professional life, Peggy was a dedicated Business Manager with Stein Mart. She traveled across the United States opening numerous stores and, along the way, built lifelong friendships with the people she worked alongside. Her Stein Mart family meant so much to her, and the relationships she formed throughout her career were some of the ones she treasured most.
Peggy was a matriarch. She was the heart and leader of her family, a loyal friend, and a mentor to many throughout her career. She had a gift for leading with both grace and honesty, and she was always willing to speak her mind, get straight to the point, and stand firmly in the corners of the people she loved. Peggy was someone you could count on, someone who knew how to have fun, someone who showed up, and someone whose presence made a lasting impact on those around her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Bob Burchfield, who she shared 67 years of marriage with, building a life and a family together. She was a loving mother to Rissa Burchfield Nettles and Mike Burchfield, and a proud grandmother to Amanda Keast (Zach).
She is also survived by her siblings, Raymond Harold McGhee (Janie), Barbara Sandford, Dwight McGhee; her sisters-in-law, Carol McGhee, Kathy Burchfield, and April Gray (David); two very special people, Aunt Willa Mae Goodwin and Uncle Freddie Johnson; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby McGhee; and her cousin, Julia Mae Brooks.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mentor, colleague, and friend. But to those who loved her most, she was simply “Peggy,” “Mrs. B,” or “Nonna,” and there will never be another one quite like her.
A visitation will take place at The Church at Rock Creek, 11500 W 36th St, Little Rock, AR 72211, on Thursday, October 8, at 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
Arrangements by A Natural State Funeral Service 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com
