In loving memory of Susie Choi (Jang Yong Ok), 87, who passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2026. She was born in Jechon, South Korea, in 1939. She endured the Japanese Occupation and the Korean War. Susie married in 1965, and she and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1971 with their two children. They first resided in the Bronx in New York City before moving to several states, including Delaware, Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma, and finally Arkansas.
In 1977, Susie and her husband opened a store in downtown Little Rock on Main Street called Downtown Wigs, where she was grateful for her loyal customers through the decades. She later opened a clothing store called Fashion USA on Asher Avenue.
One of the early Koreans to make Arkansas her home, Susie first attended the Korean Baptist Church of Arkansas, which was originally a Korean mission of Parkhill Baptist Church in Jacksonville. There, she met many newcomers and helped them adjust to their new lives. She often invited them into her home for a hot cooked meal and helped them to move to new apartments and find employment. She and her husband held many community gatherings and church services at their family home.
In 1992, Susie cofounded the First Korean Presbyterian Church of Arkansas, and four years later the congregation bought land, built a new church and opened their doors. She was installed as a senior deaconess in 1996, a position in which she served faithfully for 15 years until she retired in 2011.
With a keen sense of artistry and design, she enjoyed arranging the flowers for the church every Sunday. She also helped with church visitations and assisted many members throughout her years of service. At home, she enjoyed her quiet time in the early mornings, contemplating the scriptures and reading the Bible front to back four times a year.
Her family will miss her with a dear and tender love. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Tom Choi (Choi Chong Tai), and her son, Han Choi. She is survived by her daughter Angie Choi, her daughter-in-law, Catherine Abrams, her grandsons, Christopher Choi and David Choi, and her granddaughter Hannah Choi.
The funeral service will be held at the First Korean Presbyterian Church of Arkansas at 4821 S. University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72209 on Wednesday, October 7 at 2:00 (with visitation from 1:00-2:00) and the committal will be held afterwards at Forest Hill Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in loving memory of Susie Choi to the First Korean Presbyterian Church of Arkansas. All are welcome.

Mrs Choi was our long time neighbor. She is a precious soul. Her daughter Angie , my Daughter Michelle Mathis Harrison were inseparable growing up. I would take and pick up for cheerleading practice then stop at Dairy Queen for a snack. On the way home. Angie we loved your mom , dad, you and Han.
Our prayers are with you at this time.
