Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Frances Ruth Burkhead, age 88

Frances was a graduate of Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee.  She was the first woman given the Fulbright Scholarship.  This gave her the opportunity to study, and create a collection of folk music of Australia.

In the field of Insurance with Liberty Mutual, Boston, Massachusetts, she was a leader in corporate insurance.  Many miles she traveled for business, education and for fun.

Later she returned to her roots, a country home and farm in Cabot, Arkansas.

Her interested were her dogs, hunting, camping and quilting.

Creative and talented, Frances Ruth was a pianist (could have became a concert pianist), teacher, mentor, Sunday School teacher, where only 4 weeks ago she led some discussion of the lesson.

Some areas of the footsteps include United Methodist Woman (local and district), Church Council, music (piano), Singles Ministry, Food Pantry, Disciple Bible Study and Quilt Guild.

She would want us to continue our spiritual journey.

Death takes the body

God takes the soul

Our minds hold the memories

Our heart keeps the love

Our faith lets us know we will meet again.

A family service will be held at a later date.

The last of my mother’s first- cousins has left us. Ruth was the most interesting of all my mother’s first-cousins, the most talented, the most traveled and the most educated. I don’t think there wasn’t anything Ruth couldn’t do. She and We ran into each other at the Heart Clinic in July and were planning on having lunch together but that time has come and gone. Never put off today what you can do tomorrow. Rest In Peace Cousin Ruth.

Time goes so fast. Ruth and I ran into each other in an elevator at UAMS. She was worn out from waiting and cold. A Nurse was taking her out. We talked on the phone many times. I couldn’t or wouldn’t drive because on eye problems. She was gathering up family things she wanted to stay in the family. I am so sorry I didn’t get to go and get them. The lady taking care of her things said they weren’t there ? Lots of history lost. Ruth is with her Mom and Poppa. Their only child. Rest in peace dear one.
