Glynda Gayle Jenkinson Payton, age 79

Glynda Gayle Jenkinson Payton, 79, a resident of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Born on December 25, 1940, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Wayne Alton and Mary Evelyn “Eva” Jenkinson. Mrs. Payton was raised in Pine Bluff and graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1959. She worked at Jefferson Regional Medical Center as a Secretary and was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.

Glynda married Don “Donnie” Payton on November 20, 1959, and he predeceased her on February 15, 1984.  Glynda was also preceded in death by her parents. 

Survivors include her three children, Kimberlee Payton Burgess (Steve), Kevin Payton and Kellee Payton (Tonya); six grandchildren, Beth Crawford (Blake), Payton Smith (Josh), Adam Burgess (Sarah), Kyle Payton, Kortney Mims (Taylor), Kaleb Payton and Krista Payton; and two great grandchildren, Christopher Burgess and Claire Crawford, with two more on the way.

Glynda, known as “Mimi” to those who loved her, was a proud grandmother who enjoyed playing Yatzee, gardening and singing. In her younger years, she enjoyed making ceramics and crocheting, and she created many beautiful family heirlooms.

All are invited to join the family for a celebration of Glynda’s life at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the residence of Payton Smith: 21860 William Brandon Dr. Hensley, AR 72065. Memorials or flowers may be sent to Mrs. Smith’s address.
