James Harold West, 99 years old, went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2020. He was born on September 12, 1920 in Benton, Arkansas. He served in the Coast Guard in WW II on the LST270 in the Philippines. He grew up in Benton, Arkansas, graduated high school, and worked at the furniture factory with his dad until he enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942. James and his wife, Ruth, started the Broadway School of Real Estate in Little Rock, where he taught. They sold the school and started the Broadway School of Real Estate in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Hazel West; sister, Doris Rogers, and son-in-law, Ron Shirley.
James is survived by his wife of 56 ½ years, Ruth; daughters, Chuckie Shirley and Susie King; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, and cousins, Wanda McAdoo and Francis West. James was a member of the Home Bound Ministry at First Assembly in North Little Rock.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at A Natural State Funeral Service, 2620 West Main Street in Jacksonville. Graveside services with military honors will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock following at 1 PM.
