Velma Irene Jones, age 80

Velma Irene Jones, 80, of Cabot passed away on May 27, 2020.  She was born on October 24, 1939 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Roy Carl and Iva Pearl (Wheeler) Christian.

She was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister; who loved to spend time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed crocheting, going to yard sales and flea markets and in her younger years she was very athletic. She loved to hunt and fish and eating hamburgers.

She is preceded in death her loving husband Wesley Marion Jones, Sr., her son Wesley Marion Jones, Jr, her sisters Ruth Estelle Hatcher and Ruby Christian.

Velma leaves behind her loving children Marion Downes (Richard) and Carla Holman (Mark); her grandchildren Angela Renee Chastain (Cody), Faith Lorrain Holman, Blake Allen Holman, and Ashley Nicole O’Dell (Patrick); her great-grandchildren Lacey Nicole O’Dell, Justin Matthew Chastain, Mila Renee Chastain and Christopher Lee Chastain; her siblings Henry Joe Christian (Jacquelyn) and Roy Christian; many extended relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Sumner Cemetery, 13603 Sumner Cemetery Road, Cabot, Arkansas. 

In light of the current health concerns, Velma’s family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers if you are not able to attend the service. Please be aware, as per Arkansas directives, there will be a limit of 50 guests, all guests over age 10 must wear a face covering to attend and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

    I will miss Velma. She gave me my name, “Bossy the Heifer”. She loved Dr Pepper and Diet Coke. My favorite saying that she would say was that she wanted to get “Good, Better, Best!” My prayers and heart felt sympathy to family and friends. Kim Collins, PT
