Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Ethel Jean Hiser, 96

Ethel Jean Hiser, 96, passed away January 20, 2021. She was born February 5, 1924 in Van Buren, Arkansas to Acie Prater and Laurinda Cannefax-Prater.

Jean grew up in Rogers, Arkansas. She loved dancing, singing, and playing the piano. She attended Rogers High School where she wrote the music and words to her graduation song.

Jean has lived and worked all over the United States and several countries around the world. She worked as a telephone operator, an assistant to an Air Force General and Base Commander, a tour guide and a big rig driver.

She has been a beloved member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville for several decades and assisted her husband Dan Hiser not only as his co-driver on Katherine (their Peterbilt 18-wheeler), but also assisted Dan and other church members in their prison ministry at Tucker Maximum Security and Jacksonville’s Police Department.

Jean and Dan never had any children together, but they had hundreds of adopted children who lovingly call her Mama Jean. Her children watch after her, visit her and include her in their family.

Jean is survived by her son Daniel Ray Hiser and brother-in-law John David Hiser (Lucie).

Visitation will be Monday, January 25, 2021 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church, 401 N 1st St in Jacksonville. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am. Graveside Service will be Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 12:00pm at Benton County Memorial Park, 3800 W Walnut St in Rogers.

In light of the current health concerns, Jean’s family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers if you are not able to attend the service. Please be aware, as per Arkansas directives, attendance will be regulated in accordance to Arkansas guidelines, all guests in attendance will be required to wear masks/facial coverings and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Aunt Jean had one of the most giving hearts that we have ever known. She found the good in everyone, and everyone responded to her love. We were blessed to have had her in our lives and look forward to seeing her again.

  • JOHN DAVID NIXON JR Posted January 25, 2021 3:47 AM

I was called last night by my sister Betsy Watson, who informed me that our last aunt, Ethel Jean Hiser, had died. Again, our family has lost a member. One that was loving, caring, firm and supportive. A member who shared the Love of Jesus Christ to everyone who she came in contact with. Now “Aunt Jean” is at peace and I suspect is already walking in Heaven with her husband Dan, enjoying an everlasting life. Absent from the body – present with the Almighty God – may Ethel Jean Hiser be blessed by Her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jeannie was a dear friend and sweet lady. We worked together at Barksdale Air Force Base in 1970 and remained close friends. We always enjoyed seeing her and spending time together. She never passed up a chance to tell us about her Lord and Savior. God has taken home a beautiful Angel. Karen and I will miss her.

Jeannie, you were a fantastic role model for a young nieve Airman and always showed great kindness and although I last saw you in 1976, II always had wonderful memories of you. Godspeed and May he Bless you in eternity.
