Ernest McClaren Johnston, age 87

Ernest McClaren Johnston, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022. He was born to William Emery Johnston and Ashta Marcell McClaren Johnston in Arcadia, Kansas on December 11, 1935.

Ernie was an avid reader, a history expert, and the neighborhood handyman. You could always count on Ernie; he was a “Jack of all trades and master of many.” He had a special heart for children and animals. They gravitated to him like a magnet.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Ann Moody Johnston; three children Deborah Lee Sredin (Chris) of Benton, Arkansas, Patricia Lynn Howle of Howell, Michigan, and Ernest Michael Johnston SR (Robin) of Benton, Arkansas; seven grandchildren Jeff Johnston (Stefanie) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Dave Johnston (Brandi) of Benton, Arkansas, Michael Johnston of Benton, Arkansas, William Johnston of Little Rock, Arkansas, Shelby Barnes of Bryant, Arkansas, Joseph Howle (Nikole) of Holly, Michigan, and Andrew Howle of Howell, Michigan; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and other extended family members; and many friends who loved him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arkansas Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 6:00-8:00pm at A Natural State Funeral Service; 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas, 72076. Service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 10:00am at A Natural State Funeral Service. Interment to follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Ernest, thank you for your wonderful daughter, Patricia Howle. Our agency wouldn’t be the same without her and she is a great friend. Patti, we are very sorry for your loss.

    Ernie was truly the kindest man I have ever met. He made an impact on so many lives and will never be forgotten.
