Thomas Clifton Gilbert, age 80

Thomas Clifton Gilbert, age 80 of Oppelo, passed away August 7th, 2022 after a long battle with cancer and congestive heart failure.

Tommy owned his own big rig for many years, and he loved to drive big rigs more than anything. Tommy worked for Polk Trucking, then he worked for Lentz Trucking, and he retired from Lentz Sand and Gravel. In his younger years, he loved to rebuild motors and go trotlining. Tommy lived out his remaining years in his home, where he enjoyed working on model trains, he had a passion for model trains (he loved to watch them go around the track), he also loved birdwatching, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a good cook and a great teller for speaking the truth.

He is survived by his sisters Marilyn (Ernest) Crabtrey- Morrilton, AR and Carolyn (Benny) Crabtrey-Oppelo, AR, and his brother Roy Gilbert-Morrilton, AR, and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Cecil Gilbert, brothers: Jimmy Gilbert, Larry Gilbert, and Clyde Stewart.

Funeral services will be Graveside burial:  August 11, 2022, 10:00 a.m. Location will be: Plumerville Cemetery, where he wanted to be buried close to his mother.
Pallbearers will be: Ben Crabtrey, Jordan Crabtrey, Elbert Crabtrey, Jonathan Stewart, and Dale Gilbert.

In lieu of flowers, donations can made in Tommy’s name to McGee Monument for his headstone.
