Bettye Ann Young, age 93

Bettye Ann Young, age 93, of Punta Gorda, FL entered into heaven on September 8, 2022, and was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband Royce.  She was born on July 29, 1929, in Nashville, Tennessee to Joseph and Pansye McCord.  She had a long career in accounting and financial services.

Bettye was an avid reader and loved to bowl.  She truly enjoyed traveling and socializing.  She was an active member of the Elks Club.  Bettye was a determined woman with a big heart, who never met a stranger.  She was known for her quick wit, beautiful smile, and friendly southern hospitality, which will be missed by her family and friends.

Bettye is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Joseph McCord, Barbara Gibbs, and Michael McCord, Sr; and her son-in-law Dr. Donald Griggs.

Bettye leaves behind her children Steven Johnson, Joseph Johnson (Diane), Patrice Griggs, Brian Johnson (Bridget), and Tamara Learn (Martin); fourteen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sister Patricia Dalton; and sister-in-law Sharon McCord.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 -11:30 AM Saturday, September 17th, at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, AR with a celebration of life service to follow.

A celebration of life service will also be held in Punta Gorda, FL at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Bettye.

    John and I are sorry for the loss of your mom and grandma. I remember her as a sweet lady who passed on her smile to Pat, Kristen and Kirby. Our thoughts and prayers are with you ❤️🙏

    She was a remarkable lady and friend. Julio and I will miss having her join our family Thanksgiving. Covid really separated many. Hoping to be able to attend her service in Punta Gorda.
