Tommie Jo Avra of Conway entered her Heavenly home on September 27, 2022 at the age of 88. She was born on January 24, 1934, in Paragould, Arkansas, to Max and Sydney Johnson Hall. She was educated in North Little Rock Public Schools. Serious illness cut short a promising singing career, and she settled down into a life of marriage and raising four children.
Her husband of 71 years, Ernest Avra, Jr., survives as do her children: Debbi Beaton (Dr. Bob), Donnie (Debbie), Doug (Sandy) and David (Debi) Avra, and grandchildren Amanda Shepherd (Chris), Sawyer Beaton, Dax Beaton (fiancé Molly), Allison Guerin (Pete), Ashley Clark (Jim), Justin Avra, Drew Avra (Shannon), Jacob Avra (Rachel), Daren Avra, Jordan Avra (Lacey), Joy Bernet, Adam Avra, Brian Avra (Emily) and Nate Tilly (Betsy), and ten great- grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her sister Helen; her stepmother and grandmother to her children, Mary Hall; her brother Phillip; and great-granddaughter Ava Grace Guerin.
Jo was a devout Christian who taught bible study groups in Louisiana, Georgia, and Arkansas, including the Conway chapter of Bible Study Fellowship and Baptist Sunday school in Louisiana. She was heavily involved in community service and received a special honor by the city of Vivian, Louisiana. Her “Morning Glory Gifts” business provided custom designed gifts for all occasions.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to her church, Second Baptist of Conway, or charity of your choice. Jo’s request for a family-only memorial service will be honored.
