Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Lonnie Ben Lane Jr., age 52

On October 6, 1970, my baby brother, Lonnie Ben Lane was born in Jacksonville, AR.  Our mother, Fredia Lane Hollingshead, tells me that I wasn’t very happy about his arrival, but I would soon get over my displeasure and assume the role of Big Sister and make a best friend out of him for life!

Lonnie attended grade school at Eastside Elementary in Cabot, where he made many life long friends.  He was a 1989 graduate of Cabot High School, where he was elected president of his Senior class, Student Council, and National Honor Society.  He attended Arkansas Boys State and Governors School.  After graduating high school, he attended Ouachita Baptist University for 2 years before he transferred to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, earning a bachelors in Political Science and Criminal Justice.

Lonnie met the love of his life, Candace, in 1996.  They were married for 24 years. His proudest accomplishment was his family.  He was a devoted husband to Candace and his pride and joy were his 3 beautiful children, Jackson, Abigail and Maddox.

Lonnie had a life time career as an insurance claims adjuster for many nationally known insurance companies.  He was employed by Arkansas Farm Bureau as a Senior Auto Claims Adjuster at the time of his passing.  He was loved by many customers and colleagues thru-out the years.

Lonnie took all his roles in his life to heart.  He was a member of First Baptist Church. He knew our God and Savior, accepting the gift of eternal salvation into his heart at the age of 12. He loved his family profoundly. He was a comfort for our mother and I always knew he was watching over her. He was a good man and life of every party, especially while rooting on his beloved Chicago Cubs and the Arkansas Razorbacks.  He was a devoted husband, son, father, brother and friend. He was a stranger to no one!

On November 3, 2022, at the age of 52, Lonnie took his last breath, in the comforts of his home in Cabot, AR, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Candace, his 3 children, Jack, Abby and Maddox, our Mother, Fredia Lane Hollingshead, his in laws, Charles Foote and Judith Courtney, and my husband, David Thomas.  He was preceded in death by his step father, Jim Hollingshead, and grandparents, Alfred and Evelyn Sutterfield.  He also leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and best friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10 am at First Baptist Cabot, 204 North Third Street, Cabot, Arkansas 72023.

Finally….to my brother, my best friend, my secret keeper, my confidant ….There will never be another person that can fill your big shoes.  I truly don’t know how to “do” life without you! I take comfort in knowing that you are no longer in pain and will be watching over all of us!

I Love You much,

Sis

The Lanes were the first neighbors we met when we moved to Cabot in 2014. Our daughters became fast friends and spent a lot of time at each others’ houses. Lonnie loved the Razorbacks and loved to give me grief about the KY Wildcats. (I grew up in Kentucky.) When we were out of town, Lonnie helped our daughter with car troubles and took care of her as though she were his own. To Candace, Jackson, Abby and Maddox, we love you guys, and we’re keeping you and your entire family in our prayers.

As a childhood friend and Neighbor down the street on Eastern Avenue… Lonnie always treated me kind, with being the Only girl he still included me! Later in High school he met my now husband Bryan and of course made friends! God has a great way of bringing people together, we will miss you until we join you in Heaven! Much love…

I got to know Lonnie and Sherry years ago when I became close friends with their Mom, Fredia. We lived next door to each other, so we spent a lot of time together, and Lonnie and Sherry were there a lot. I loved them both. They have always been wonderful adult kids and have been good to their Mother. My daughter had such a big crush on Lonnie. He was such a good looking guy. We will miss you sweet man RIP

Fredia and family, I am just devastated learning of Lonnie’s death. My mind is flooded with memories of Lonnie and Lane during those junior and senior high school years. Lonnie was the most polite friend Lane had and was always just a nice person to be around. My heart is broken with you and I pray for God’s peace for you.

I’m just heartbroken for you Sherry and Freida. Lonnie and I were friends from elementary on even when I moved we stayed friends through my grandparents, the Barnetts, when I would come to visit them during them summer and go to FBC Bible School. During high school we would spend weekends hanging out. Lonnie and Lane were inseparable in those days, Natalie too! Then we all ended up at OBU together and had such a great time. I remember begging him not to leave! After that we lost contact and life got busy, but Lonnie was a life-long kind of friend. I remember how we all felt when Jim passed away and what a hard time that was for all of you. Now they are back together. God bless you all. I’m sorry I never had the pleasure of meeting his wife and children. I know they must be wonderful! Prayers for everyone.

I am so sad to hear of Lonnie’s passing. I saw him recently when my vehicles had hail damage and we reminisced about old times at Cabot High School. He was very proud of his kids and told me to look out for his daughter since I teach at CHS now. May God comfort and bless his family and hold them in His loving arms. I speak the name of Jesus over you all. Amen.
