Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved One

Merrill Elaine Mercer, age 68

We regretfully announce the passing of Merrill Elaine Mercer of Greenbrier, Arkansas on November 11, 2022. Elaine was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully after a sudden, yet courageous battle with cancer.

Our mother, Elaine, was one of the strongest, bravest women to ever walk this Earth and our family was blessed to have her. She was the emotional rock for all of us. She was born, the biggest little Texan, on November 28, 1953 in Dallas, Texas to Merrill Ann Hovey and Arlon Ray Chancelor. Her hobbies included floral arranging, hiking, gardening, painting, cooking, camping, swimming, kayaking, laughing, hugging trees and spending time with her family and many pets through the years. She loved all of nature, great and small, from the little bee to the Great Egret. Elaine did many different things throughout her life such as dental assistant, restaurant manager, welding assistant, furniture manufacturing, waitressing, cooking, Chef’s assistant at a Country Club, and owning a small crafting business called “Miss Elainious”. She was a full-time mother, wife, teacher and friend. As a homesteader, she helped build a house from the ground up with her own two hands. She built roads, established gardens for food, a well for water, and flower beds for beauty. She did all this with the father of her children, her partner and companion of 50 years, Michael Lee Mercer.

Her proudest accomplishments were having and raising her five wonderful children: Anthony Wade Daniel, Angela Marie (Mercer) Forsyth, Michael Jason Mercer, Kendra Lee (Mercer) Suttles and Melissa Ann (Mercer) Cottrell. She had one step-son, Michael Lee Mercer, Jr. and one honorary son, Casey Cottrell, both of whom she loved as her own. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Adam Daniel, Harley Emerson, Nathanial Cook, Logan Cottrell, Phillip Suttles, Lilly Suttles, William Forsyth, and Mia Cottrell. She will forever be missed.
