Shirley Ellett Burks, age 72

Shirley Ellett Burks, 72, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2022 at home. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Percy Ray “Woody” Woods.

Ms. Burks was born on August 29, 1950 in Webb, Mississippi to the late William “Bill” Ellett and Colie Thompson Ellett. She was one of four children, three have preceded her in death, William “Bud” Ellett (Dorinda), John “Bo” Ellett and Barbara Ann Carson. She was also welcomed in heaven by her late son Steven Scott Poindexter and her niece, Bonnie Ellett.

Ms. Burks leaves behind her children Jerry (Tammy) Poindexter of Calhoun City, Mississippi, Mike (Kim) Poindexter of Bowie Texas, Aaron Winters of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tracy (Allen) O’Neal of Lexa, Arkansas and Darlene Burks of Batesville, Mississippi. She was the “Granny” to 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Ms. Burks also leaves behind a sister, Virginia Burton of Monroe, Louisiana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be laid to rest at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Sumner, Mississippi. No service will be held at the request of Ms. Burks.
